Filtering these Meme materials from the massive collection of Stage play stills took quite a bit of deliberation. While putting this Meme set together, I kept reminiscing about that unhinged, wild state on the Babel stage at ChinaJoy. Wishadel is a character with extreme contrast, swinging dramatically from cold and ruthless to fierce and explosive. Slipping into that black tactical leather jacket, putting on the wig and red horns, and getting into character was truly a fascinating process. To convey her manic, neurotic edge, my choreographies incorporated many exaggerated pauses and sudden outbursts—such as the wide-eyed horrified look in the photo, and the moment of breakdown being pinned to the floor. Upon receiving the event photos, adding captions to create Meme edits instantly crossed my mind, as freezing a single frame from a continuous Stage play performance often yields unexpected surprises. To replicate that gaze, during rehearsals I specifically practiced giving that look of utter disdain. The selection process involved discarding many shots due to dim lighting or cluttered backgrounds. However, there were also pleasant surprises, like the close-up of being fed—an ad-lib on stage that wasn't in the original script. Riding the atmosphere in that moment turned into such an effective candid shot. The text design couldn't be overly complex; the simpler, the better. For instance, the image captioned "back to the dump" paired with swinging a sword delivers strong visual punch. And the line "stay right where you are" actually came from fatigue after running blocking routes on stage, which friends turned into a playful running gag. The Babel cast is a team with incredible chemistry; joking with props backstage also sparked numerous improvisations. Wearing the full gear under bright stage lights was roasting hot; it wasn't light, and managing blocking while keeping facial expressions sharp was utterly exhausting. Yet it was precisely this live energy and deep immersion that made me truly feel I had become the character. Making Meme edits is another form of secondary creation. Looking through these stills, many expressions I had no conscious memory of were frozen in time. The surrounding red curtains and pillars created an oppressive mood that resonated seamlessly with her persona. Sorting through the oversized photo collage, I couldn't stop laughing. Every single photo has a story behind it, including moments of breaking character on stage. Given the immense crowds at ChinaJoy, it tested our nerves, yet audience reactions provided tremendous motivation. This Meme series is not only my personal wellspring of joy, but also a gift to the fans. Looking forward to the next Stage play, where I can share another fresh batch of stage stills to play with!
