[Theresa Cosplay] Remaining in the Past in Arknights

Starting from the character's setting of tranquility and detachment, I chose to conduct an outdoor shoot for Theresa from Arknights during the day. Considering the grayish-white tones and light, airy feel of the original design, the high contrast of this Cosplay outfit under natural light was the key direction I wanted to emphasize. The wig chosen was a style that gradients from light pink to milky white. The texture of the hair strands creates a visual contrast with the black bow hair accessory on top, perfectly matching the cool-toned yet soft character aura.

The outfit itself has many layers—the white outer skirt layer covers the black inner base, and the cuffs feature a wide, semi-sheer black tulle design that creates a great sense of air movement when walking. The ornament with a circular pattern on the chest also serves as the visual focus. To enhance the overall sharp look, the lower body was paired with black tights and black chunky-heeled ankle boots. This combination fits the character's crisp, capable style while visually elongating the leg proportions during dynamic action shots.

The building chosen for this location was a white pointed archway with very clean geometric lines, perfect for softening cluttered background elements. During the shoot, we mainly used medium-wide angles and low angles. Low-angle shots effectively stretch the subject's overall outline, which, combined with the flowing hem of the dress, creates a lighter visual feel. The pose in Photo 3—raising one leg backward while maintaining body balance—was a dynamic moment captured after many attempts. Because of maintaining overall balance, the skirt billowed into a natural arc, fully revealing the black ankle boots and tights at that instant, with the tension from the dynamic posture perfectly balancing out the cool aloofness of static close-ups.

Photo 1 is a close-up holding dark-colored flowers, shot at an intentionally lowered angle to capture the rim light on hair strands and fabric folds. As a prop, the dark bouquet grounds the frame against the white clothing so the overall image doesn't feel too floaty. When doing Anime-style photography of this kind, managing eye expression is actually more crucial than posture. No overly exaggerated emotional expressions are needed; a lowered gaze or looking straight into the distance can beautifully convey that quiet emotion of "remaining in the past."

Shooting the entire set, the most tiring part was actually repeating that single-leg lift multiple times to find the best angle for the flowing skirt. But every time I saw the stark black-and-white contrast framed by the white pointed archway in the camera, I felt all those adjustments were worth it. The greatest charm of an outdoor shoot lies in the constantly changing light and shadow; the natural light that afternoon was very soft without harsh shadows, effectively preserving the fabric texture of the outfit and the layers of the wig. During post-processing, we didn't deliberately change too many colors, mainly retaining the original cool high-key tones and the ambient color of the white building, only fine-tuning the contrast to enhance the sharpness of the black and white color blocks on the clothing.

As long as the outfit details are accurate enough and the posture is on point, you don't actually need overly elaborate environmental backdrop to convey the character's temperament. This clean and sharp visual presentation has always been my preferred style for cosplay photoshoots, as it respects the original design intent of the costume while enhancing the character's unique traits through composition, light, and shadow.
