Having just wrapped up a night shoot in the sunflower field, I'm taking the opportunity to recap the styling and photoshoot experience while it's fresh in my mind. This session featured a doujin styling of Tamamo no Mae from Fate/Grand Order, and huge thanks to Mr. Shiwang on set for his precise mastery of light and shadow. Because shooting sunflowers at night meant dealing with very strong, warm ambient color temperatures, he used a combination of key and fill lights to highlight skin translucency and the white dress's textures. A cool key light from the front suppressed the orange ambient light, while backlighting on the fluffy ears and tail created rim lighting, establishing fantastic depth and layering.
In terms of attire, this doujin dress is packed with details—the delicate lace embroidery and blue trim required deliberate lighting to show their true texture. The top is an off-the-shoulder cut, and the skirt has rich layers, requiring careful leg extension during posing to flatter the silhouette. White stockings paired with blue-and-white block heels accented with red flowers did wonders to elongate leg lines. Holding a sunflower as a prop echoed the background while serving as a vibrant accent in the dark. White lace gloves and a handheld fan were wonderful complementary props, adding depth to the composition and making hand poses feel natural.
Posing amidst the flowerbeds demanded careful control: the ground was uneven, and one careless move could crush the flowers. For the seated poses on the grass, the key was extending legs diagonally toward the camera to fully showcase the pairing of white stockings and shoes. The kneeling pose holding flowers and the finger-heart gesture highlighted the flare of the skirt and the flowing grace of the detached sleeves. On-set bugs were a small ordeal, and exposing my shoulders and legs in the grass earned me quite a few mosquito bites. But seeing the striking warm-and-cool contrast between the warm sunflower glow and the crisp white dress made every bit worth it. Wearing this blue-and-red accented white ensemble through the flower sea resonated with the character's lively, playful spirit, and I hope everyone can feel the care poured into this work.
