[Li Meiling cosplay] A Magical Girl in Cherry Blossom Season from Cardcaptor Sakura

While taking photos in the park today, a group of kids suddenly gathered around me shouting 'Nezha!' I was surprised at first, but thinking back, the twin ox-horn buns paired with my outfit naturally invited that hilarious cross-fandom mix-up. In truth, I was cosplaying Li Meiling from Cardcaptor Sakura today. To harmonize with the cherry blossom season, I specifically chose her classic black sailor top paired with a white pleated skirt.

Looking at the outfit's details, I made sure to faithfully replicate the red-and-white striped trim along the collar and cuffs of the black top, as well as the winged insignia on the left sleeve. The wig was styled into twin buns tied with light-blue ribbons, which, alongside red contact lenses, brought out her straightforward yet adorably tsundere personality. To enrich the composition, I brought along a clear umbrella, a prop sword, and paper talismans. Golden magic circle visual effects added in post-production rounded off the whimsical atmosphere.

The shooting process was a blast. The park was crowded with cherry blossom viewers, forcing me to clamber over rocks and uneven ground to find clean angles. Navigating that terrain in white stockings and platform shoes was far from easy—tiptoeing and half-crouching nearly snagged the white stockings on stray twigs. The transparent umbrella produced glaring highlights under direct sunlight, requiring ongoing micro-adjustments to dodge harsh reflections. Slashing with the prop sword adorned with long red tassels created dynamic, tension-filled motion in the frame. Passersby gathered to watch, and a few even asked for photos together; despite my social anxiety, it was immensely rewarding.

Cardcaptor Sakura has always been a beloved classic to me, filled with adorable characters, and Li Meiling is one of my cherished childhood icons. Combining her sailor uniform with magical-girl motifs amidst blooming cherry blossoms made for a wonderful shoot. Hearing people link her look with Nezha was also quite entertaining. Ultimately, cosplay is about bringing favorite characters into reality and sharing that joy with others, free from worries about chasing trends or clout.

The tail end of the cherry blossom season passes quickly. Capturing my passion on camera as flower petals drift by is everything I could ask for. I hope everyone viewing these photos can feel the vibrant anime energy of a spring afternoon.
