[Velina cosplay] Tea Party Preparations for Velina in Zenless Zone Zero: Combat Stance with White Stockings and a Lance

Gearing up for the next tea party shoot—this one was the official BW convention photography coverage, with photographer Shadow Kid capturing plenty of dynamic snapshots. To complement Velina's blue-and-white ensemble, I chose a cool-toned, straight white wig paired with white animal ears. To properly fit the elf ear accessories, I clipped back the front sections of the wig to conceal the base, blending the roots cleanly so they looked natural without appearing artificial under daylight. The most compelling facet of this wardrobe was the deep blue overcoat, white lace-trimmed skirt, and white stockings subtly textured with vertical pinstripes. The fabric reflects light gorgeously; pairing white high heels with white stockings not only channels an exquisite tactile texture, but also dramatically elongates leg lines. While framing to freeze the skirt's motion, we tested numerous stances—a gentle breeze or a slight spin dramatically shifted the sweep and curvature of the hem.

The levitating black rubble fragments and white airflow trails in the frame were added in post-production, requiring me to hold the lance on set and strike combat stances mimicking sword strikes, while remaining mindful of leaving negative space on the right so floating stones wouldn't clip through my silhouette. For the full-body shot chosen as the cover, I stood with crossed legs, shifting my center of gravity onto the rear leg—this maximizes line elongation while tucking the hips for a slender look. Holding the folding fan half-unfurled and angling the long blade downward naturally guided visual focus toward the skirt and legs, balancing crisp poise with elegance. The lighting inside the crowded BW expo hall was tricky to manage, yet the photographer's dialed-in fill light brought out the rich, saturated navy tones of the blue coat without letting it sink into muddy gloom. Holding rigid poses motionless to ensure the sharpness required for post-FX compositing proved exhausting; gripping the heavy lance engaged wrist muscles continuously while keeping the fan steady. My arms grew quite sore, yet seeing the final visual payoff made every ounce of effort worthwhile.

Compositing demanded precise placement to keep debris from masking the character while preserving spatial depth and three-dimensional realism. This collaboration was deeply rewarding and filled with seamless communication. Each anime cosplay endeavor tests stamina and patience, but seeing the finished frames brings immense creative accomplishment. More than just a costume, the photos project the character's aura—a cool, detached, and fierce battle readiness. During fittings, I spent hours considering how to project that cool composure and quiet confidence, ultimately locking it in by fine-tuning facial expressions and eye focus. Cold, aloof characters strictly test expression control: no trace of a smile is allowed, and the gaze must remain intensely focused. If you're looking to shoot this style, pay close attention to bodily lines—point your insteps, engage your core, and lift your chest. These nuances prevent any bulky look on camera, especially when wearing stockings, by sharpening the contours of the calves. These finished shots realized everything I had envisioned for the character.
