I finally got to shoot this outfit for Hyacinthia cosplay this time; it's truly a look I've been longing for for a long time. The Fengbao-flavored ice cream in the original art is incredibly cute. That intertwined color palette of pink, blue, and white, combined with the fluffy skirt and iconic white tights, makes recreating this Anime-style fashion actually quite a test of details. The costume this time was custom-made by a tailor based on the original artwork. The alternating red and white top features gold thread embroidery, and the lace trim on the cuffs and collar stays as true to the fairy-tale feel of the original work as possible. The fabric of the skirt was specially chosen to be chiffon with a good drape so that the flowy effect in the original art could be captured.
The wig is the focus this time. The pink and blue gradient tone has distinct highlights, and to recreate those two small ornaments on top of the head, I specially paired them with hand-crafted plush balls and small golden charms. During the shoot, we were constantly adjusting the lighting, because white stockings easily overexpose under natural light, while indoor lighting can easily distort the red of the skirt. Ultimately, we chose a spot by the window in the afternoon and used a soft light board for fill light, beautifully preserving both the texture of the white stockings and the sheen of the red skirt.
The staff prop in my hand was also assembled by myself, using a transparent acrylic rod and a blue pearlescent ball, with a bit of golden lace added to the bottom, giving it just the right weight in hand. Actually, the most enjoyable part of cosplay is the process of turning a flat 2D character into a three-dimensional real object, especially at the exact moment when you put on the shoes and stockings and step onto the floor, feeling as if the character has truly walked out of the illustration. The photos this time mainly want to highlight the agile yet slightly proud temperament of this character from Honkai: Star Rail, so I deliberately chose a few poses with a sense of dynamic movement, such as the way the skirt slightly spins, and the extension of the legs during high-angle shots, hoping to convey that lightweight magical girl feeling from the original art to fellow fans. In post-processing, only basic color correction and blemish removal were done without excessive reshaping, because I feel that she herself has that naturally cute setting and doesn't need too much intentional modification. Next, I also want to take some outdoor photos with scenes, like places with flowers and sunshine, which should better fit this character's atmosphere.
