[Blanc cosplay] Azur Lane: Aloof & Spirited Charm, Convention Photo Record at OIOI Indoor Venue

This time, I shot a Convention photo set for Blanc's look inside the OIOI indoor venue. Because the venue was an open industrial-style factory hall with dense overhead pipes and lighting fixtures, the overall light had a cool tone. Paired with this black Japanese-style outfit featuring bold, bright yellow patterns, it created a striking visual contrast in the frame. That day, we opted for a low-angle upward shot, focusing visual weight onto the leg lines. The black form-fitting shorts paired with Black stockings and red stiletto heels really tested my balance during standing poses—especially shifting weight onto the back leg while leaning slightly backward to elongate the leg lines as much as possible. Holding this pose while raising the black folding fan next to my cheek required arm strength, making my arms ache after a while. The fan features a matte black finish adorned with white ink-wash calligraphy patterns, which, combined with the bright yellow on the garment, conveyed a sharp, formidable edge.

During the shoot, the photographer directed me to reach one hand forward while waving the wide sleeve with the other, using the fabric's movement to enhance dynamic energy. When swung, the wide sleeve created deep fold shadows; under the cool industrial light sources, highlights popped brilliantly on the yellow patterns, instantly defining rich black-white-gray depth. In an indoor convention setting with many people around, moving around in stilettos required extra care. To make my legs look longer, the photographer spent nearly the entire time squatting or shooting flush against the floor, which was physically demanding. For instance, finding reflections on the floor to catch the red-soled stilettos worked wonderfully with the hard lighting and deep shadows, suiting the sharp aesthetic of this outfit. The prop folding fan was not only a tool but also a great sightline guide; holding it beside the face defined facial contours clearly. These retouching ideas aligned with the photographer's vision, and we communicated thoroughly before settling on this low angle paired with a high-contrast background.

Beyond leg lines, I focused on keeping my back straight and posture upright, as this outfit easily looks lifeless without proper posture. The wig was silky white hair, with bangs trimmed to frame the face and sidelocks softening the cheeks. Light-colored contacts combined with cool-toned fair foundation conveyed an aloof, composed aura. The most interesting aspect of shooting a Convention photo like this is the complex, dynamic lighting on site. The rows of cool overhead lights served as background accents, creating great spatial depth from the upward angle. The concrete floor also offered subtle reflections, catching the silhouettes of the shoe heels. Thanks to the natural sheen of the Black stockings, highlights along the legs were beautifully preserved under the lights, which is my favorite element in this set. We avoided over-smoothing skin texture, preserving original lighting and authentic expressions to keep it natural.

This look is immensely popular in Azur Lane, and I did plenty of homework before cosplaying her, fine-tuning the garment tailoring and accessory proportions to match the original design faithfully. Because the fabric is relatively structured, it posed some resistance during movement, requiring precise force control when waving the sleeve to ensure the folds unfolded naturally and gracefully.
