This shoot at the tail end of summer happened to bring together this set of Yanami Anna cosplay photos, which feels like a proper wrap-up for the season. In fact, while shooting a while back, I kept wondering how to preserve that unique summer light through the lens. This time, I chose a very transparent, highly saturated blue wig, which, paired with the iconic white and gray uniform with gray trim from Too Many Losing Heroines!, is visually highly recognizable. This is also why I love the character Yanami Anna so much—her blue has a very pure and striking feel, yet carries a vibrant energy of mindlessly stuffing her face with food.
Using Sony A7R5 photography throughout the entire session to record everything, the resolving power of this setup, just like the description says, allows the clothing textures and the dynamic details of the wig to be preserved solidly. Regarding highlight control, those front-lit shots on the rooftop beautifully manage the brightness of the sky, making the frame lasting and appealing. The light and shadow sliding along the railings down onto the blue hair create a translucent ambiance that I really love, and during post-processing, special care was taken to recreate this soft lighting ratio. Aside from the rooftop, these outdoor steps with anti-slip textures also add a bit of industrial-style linear feel to the frame, forming a wonderful contrast of textures with the character's softness. I intentionally kept some 2D daily life lifestyle scenes in this set of photos, such as glancing back by the railing in a corner of the rooftop, or looking back in the gaps of climbing the stairs.
Of course, the most "losing heroine" shot has to be that indoor snapshot of me holding french fries and a drink. The character herself is a very food-loving, energetic, yet slightly clumsy girl. So in that fast-food restaurant, I tried to completely relax, not forcing any poses, and just treated it like I was having a normal lunch and drinking a cold beverage. Coordinated with that slightly dimmed warm indoor yellow light, it formed a high contrast with the outdoor sunlight, creating two completely different atmospheres—bright and clear outdoors, cozy and warm indoors.
Looking at these photos, I can't help but think that summer is truly coming to an end. This blue wig paired with a white shirt and gray pleated skirt indeed carries a clear and transparent feel unique to summer. As a cosplayer who frequently goes to various outdoor locations for shoots, I am always happy when I occasionally encounter times when both the lighting and the scenery are fully on point for a summer campus style cosplay. For this kind of photo, thorough preparation before shooting is essential—combing the wig, ironing the outfit, and communicating with the photographer are all vital. Sometimes, a simple turn of the head actually requires adjusting the facial expression and posture many times behind the scenes to capture the most natural split second.
Although summer is about to pass, the colors and warmth in the photos are preserved. I hope this look with a strong personal style can bring everyone a bit of imagination regarding summer.
