[Houshou Marine cosplay] Pirate Captain at the Convention Parade: A Gorgeous Entrance from hololive

For this convention parade, I wore this well-known Houshou Marine pirate captain outfit to tour the venue. The outdoor lighting was fantastic—cloudy yet soft—making it ideal for showcasing the glossy texture of the red-and-black costume without creating harsh glare or reflective blind spots under bright sun.

Let's talk about the overall outfit design first. The top features a high-neck, midriff-baring cut with glossy red silk fabric that looks amazing on camera. The massive blue gem at the collar is the defining touch, brightening the dark collar area while faithfully recreating the character's visual design. Simple white piping and gold buttons balance out the large area of red. Although I didn't opt for flat shoes, I specifically paired the look with heeled brown ankle boots. Visually, these elongate leg proportions, matching the black lace-trimmed thigh-high socks to give this Pirate style outfit a heroic yet playful vibe.

Moving on to head accessories, I chose a wig with a gradient from red to pinkish-white, which showed rich, multi-layered texture under natural light. The lace headband interwoven through the hair strands added great detail. Of course, the iconic black eyepatch and exaggerated captain's hat were essential. The captain's hat has a complex structure, embellished with gold distressed textures and lace trim on the brim—holding it or wearing it instantly boosts the overall aura.

The coat design is a personal favorite: a voluminous black cloak jacket lined with vibrant red fabric. To match the character design, the cuffs feature wide turned-back sleeves; the black fabric is paired with small red sleeve covers embroidered with anchor patterns and finished with lace trim. Whether held in hand or hanging naturally by my side, it fits the pirate theme seamlessly.

For the photo shoot, we designed distinct body language to match this styling: confident and domineering poses with hands on hips facing the camera, as well as playful gestures lifting the cuffs with both hands. Though we shot in streets surrounding the convention with heavy foot traffic, the photographer used a wide aperture to blur the background trees and buildings, cleanly isolating the subject from the noisy environment while retaining authentic convention atmosphere.

During the convention parade, passersby recognized me several times, calling out the character's name—that direct recognition felt immensely rewarding. I spent a lot of time preparing accessories beforehand, such as checking the gem color, styling the wig, and adjusting the cloak length. Every detail was carefully refined.

On the sunlit asphalt road, this red-and-black outfit proved exceptionally eye-catching. Whether in full-body compositions or upper-body close-ups, it effectively conveys the character's free-spirited, dashing, yet mischievous personality. Although wearing the heavy hat under the sun felt a bit stuffy, the final photos made every bit of preparation feel worthwhile.
