Shooting Yakumo Chen cosplay this time, the chosen location was a quiet garden with a wooden corridor. For the costume, I especially loved this red vest dress with a floral pattern, paired with large white puff sleeves and lace trim, giving it rich layering. The teal lace hat accessory on top, combined with plush cat ears, faithfully recreated the character's features while bringing a fairy-tale-like agility. For styling, I kept long straight hair with straight bangs, paired with pure white over-the-knee socks and red Mary Janes, making the overall color contrast cleaner and sharper.
The shoot took place in the afternoon when sunlight filtered slantwise through the leaves, creating beautiful Tyndall effects and lens flares. The lighting atmosphere of this set was achieved almost entirely with natural light, with post-processing only subtly enhancing the warm tones. The second low-angle photo was actually an attempt to frame the wooden pergola, flower clusters, and sky in a single shot, and the backlit bokeh unexpectedly added a dreamlike filter to the entire picture. The white teddy bear, picnic basket, and red apples in the first photo were spontaneous prop choices that happened to form a cozy picnic vibe against the wooden floor.
Shooting this look actually required attention to many details—such as how the skirt folds fell, the puffiness of the wrist cuffs, and whether the height of the over-the-knee socks was evenly aligned. These were all details I adjusted repeatedly on site. The angle of the cat ears was changed several times as well; I finally decided to tilt them slightly to one side to look more natural. Speaking of the character herself, Chen's laid-back yet playful vibe has always been something I really like, so I tried to soften my expressions during the shoot. When not looking at the camera, I would look toward where the wind was blowing or zone out gazing at nearby leaves and flowers. This state without overly forced posing made it much easier to capture genuine emotion.
Furthermore, choosing to do outdoor photography under natural light for this cosplay demanded high lighting requirements—as soon as clouds moved, the light changed, so every frame was a moment captured in an instant. As for props, that woven rattan basket actually had a book tucked inside; to keep it from stealing the spotlight, we exposed just a corner of the book with an apple placed beside it, giving the shot a storytelling feel. Personally, I believe the most important aspect of pastoral style cosplay is restoring costume texture and maintaining overall atmospheric unity, so a lot of effort went into pairing props with the setting—for example, the dark frame of the wooden cabin window nicely set off my light-colored outfit.
