The classic spell card name "Master Spark," paired with this Touhou Project style, has finally frozen that image in my heart through these Chinese anime convention photos. For this Marisa Kirisame cosplay, a lot of thought went into the details of the costume and props. That over-the-top, wide-brimmed ruffled big hat is the soul of the entire look. The white fabric features gold star-dot stenciling, while the edges are finished with fine lace, combined with a black lace lining, instantly holding up the character's powerful aura. However, navigating through the crowded convention with it definitely required some skill, and I had to be careful at all times not to get caught on anything, but for the final photos, it was all worth it.
The costume itself adopts a color palette primarily based on black, white, and gold. The upper body features a white off-the-shoulder shirt with ruffled cuffs, cinched in the middle with a black row-button corset waist seal, and a brown leather belt fastened over it. A small matching leather-textured waist pouch hangs at the waist, which beautifully divides the proportions of the upper and lower body visually. The skirt hem of the lower body is exceptionally layered; the black layer covered in gold glitter forms a powerful contrast in color and material with the cascading cream-white lace ruffles underneath, vividly expressing the fluffy, magical girl vibe of Marisa in this Lolita outfit. Combined with white over-the-knee socks and black glossy thick-soled Mary Jane shoes, it is exquisite from head to toe.
What I am actually most satisfied with in this shoot is the moment of leaping. Because the skirt and hat are both extremely large, it was quite exhausting to try and capture that lightweight magical feeling; I had to time it right and leap with all my might just as the shutter clicked, but luckily the final composition and lighting matched perfectly. The prop in my hand is a curved crook cane with a black bow, from which a tiny vintage lantern hangs, a small detail that adds a lot of fantastical ambiance to the overall piece. The lighting at the venue was relatively dim, with many neatly arranged exhibition hall ceiling lights above. This kind of ambient light is actually hard to manage, but the dark background perfectly highlighted the subject, making the blonde hair and white lace stand out more sharply. For the makeup, I specially emphasized the yellow colored contacts and the prominent blush under the eyes to bring out Marisa's energetic yet slightly tsundere anime qualities. The entire set of photos features static close-ups as well as dynamic snapshots, showcasing the charm of these convention photos from as many angles as possible. This is also a session of Chinese anime convention photos that I personally love, and it feels truly wonderful to appear before the camera lens in a look I adore for Cosplay photography.
