[Yae Miko cosplay] The Fox Guuji of Grand Narukami Shrine in Genshin Impact - Image 1

Preparing the hair, makeup, and styling for Yae Miko took considerably longer than usual this time. I poured immense care into the wig: because Miko's pink hair features distinct layers along the tips and sideburns, I deliberately chose a wig with richer color saturation, personally trimming the blunt bangs and face-framing strands. To make the roots look organic, I fine-tuned them with a flat iron and applied plenty of setting spray to keep the hairstyle firmly in place throughout the selfie session. The gold and purple hair ornaments on both sides carry quite a bit of weight, requiring careful symmetrical placement to avoid looking top-heavy.

The eye makeup was the core highlight. To recreate that alluring fox-eye gaze, purple contact lenses were essential, opting for a medium diameter to naturally enlarge the eyes. I used pink eyeshadow as a base, deepening the outer corners with a reddish-brown gradient, and drew sharp, winged eyeliner. Individual cluster false eyelashes were applied for an exquisite finish, while white pearlescent highlighter on the lower lids enhanced facial flatness and dimension. The base makeup leaned into high-coverage concealing for a porcelain, flawless complexion, finished with blush dusted beneath the eyes and across the nose tip for a subtle, tipsy flush.

The costume details truly deserve a close look. The white high-collar garment is crafted from a thick fabric woven with jacquard patterns; it felt rather warm and stuffy to wear, but enduring it was necessary for that premium texture. The crimson trim along the hems creates a striking contrast against the black inner layer. The most arresting piece is undoubtedly the massive metallic ornament across the chest, whose central purple gemstone and four-leaf clover motif are remarkably faithful to the original design. Because of its weight, I kept my hand resting near my chin in selfies—partly to showcase the prop and partly to maintain visual balance in the frame. The hand posture was deliberately composed: a gentle semi-cupped hand hid seam lines while conveying the character's refined elegance.

I experimented with selfie angles repeatedly, eventually settling on a subtle high-angle perspective paired with frontal fill lighting. This locked visual focus onto the eyes and face against a darker backdrop, making the subject pop dramatically. Since this was an indoor shoot with tricky ambient light, a dedicated ring fill light was angled directly at my face. While I gave my all to the styling, I still felt my expression control fell slightly short—Miko's lazy, nonchalant demeanor layered with subtle mischievousness is truly difficult to master, hence the OOC apology in the post; please go easy on me, fellow Genshin players! Next time, I'd love to try an outdoor location shoot with dynamic posing to capture the Guuji's aura even more authentically. Every cosplay prep is a continuous journey of fine-tuning—from tailoring garments and cutting wigs to testing makeup and adjusting accessory angles—all in the hope of presenting the very best result.
