This shoot features Betty cosplay from Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World. The character's blonde twin-tails, blue eyes, and red cape are the core visual elements. To faithfully recreate this look, I chose a specific shade of blue contact lenses, applied a noticeable pink smudging beneath the eyes, and drew long lower eyelashes to highlight the character's unique, doll-like expression. The wig was custom-styled with layered curls to achieve voluminous twin-tails. Securing the red spherical hairpiece and large pink bow on top took quite a bit of effort and required numerous positioning clips.
In terms of costume, the red cape has a lovely drape, while the white plush trim along the edges and the pink ribbon at the neckline soften the overall palette. For the photoshoot, dark wooden bookshelves were selected as the background, utilizing their spatial depth to make the bright subject pop. The lighting setup mainly utilized a single-side light source combined with a reflector to adjust facial shadows, focusing on capturing subtle shifts in gaze—most shots in this set look directly into the lens.
During post-processing, natural skin texture was preserved without excessive smoothing, focusing instead on brightening the blue contact lenses for sharper eye focus, alongside darkening the background shadows to help the subject stand out against the dark books. Overall, this styling feels very true to the character design, especially with the red, white, and pink color scheme creating rich visual layers against the dark background. While we also experimented with side and back angles during the shoot, this set of frontal retouched photos was ultimately chosen for optimal composition balance and background synergy. Overall, the costume fidelity and atmosphere fully met expectations, and refining the makeup details truly brought out the character's distinct charm.
