[Yutori Natsu Cosplay] Qipao and Pose Reference in Blue Archive

Having finished shooting this Qipao set for Natsu, the overall vibe feels exceptionally refreshing. I wanted to sort out these shooting insights and qipao pose reference notes while the memory is fresh, hoping they will be helpful to fellow creators wanting to shoot similar themes.

Let's start with the hairstyle and makeup. The wig used this time is a very pale cherry blossom pink, with an upward-curving ahoge shaped like a cat's tail styled at the crown, and double odango (twin buns) on both sides. The buns are adorned with white silk flower hair ornaments and several cascading red ribbons, which echo the red piping on the dress wonderfully. As for the makeup, I intentionally used reddish eyeshadow and eyeliner to make my gaze appear more agile, and selected matching light-red colored contact lenses for the pupils, making the overall facial aesthetic delicate and sweet as a pink-haired cosplayer.

The costume is the core of this entire look. A sleeveless modified qipao predominantly in pure pink, it utilizes a high mandarin collar design combined with a diagonal placket, fastened in the middle by three red bow-shaped frog buttons. The arm sleeves feature an independent, detached flutter-sleeve design worn starting below the shoulders; the cuffs are exceptionally wide with matching double-layered white ruffles that flutter naturally during large movements, adding an ethereal grace. The lower skirt hem is quite short with high side slits, paired with black over-the-knee thigh-high stockings. The full palette is constrained to four main tones: pink, white, black, and red—clean and vibrant.

For the pose design, I experimented with a few different approaches. The first is a static sitting pose, resting on a pure white cylindrical prop with legs together and naturally draped to the side, hands gently folded in front to showcase the character's gentle and well-behaved nature. The second is a dynamic single-leg standing pose, with the body slightly tilting sideways and one leg raised high toward the back, utilizing the dress slit and the absolute territory exposed by the black over-the-knee socks to inject a dash of playfulness and agility. The third is a candid snapshot action with a palm extending toward the front, yielding a strong lens perspective that adds a playful sense of forward interaction for an anime-style portrait.

Regarding photography, we opted for a minimalist pure white backdrop and soft, high-key lighting, solely aimed at highlighting the costume and the person. The expansive soft light renders the pink fabric texture exceptionally soft while making the model's skin appear fair and translucent. The pure white cylindrical prop functions both as a seat and as part of the composition, stabilizing the visual center of the frame. In post-production, we primarily retained the original high contrast to accentuate the red stitching and hair ornament details, eschewing excessive filter color grading to preserve the bright, clean ambiance of the raw photos as much as possible for this anime-style portrait session.

Actually, when mapping out the qipao pose reference, the hardest point to balance is simultaneously showcasing the seductive body lines highlighted by the dress while retaining the character's innocent vitality. This time, through the single-leg lift and variations in sitting postures, these two aspects were beautifully integrated. The fabric of the dress is relatively thin and lightweight, so during the shoot, one must stay mindful of the fabric's flow and creases; pulling the material taut as much as possible when posing will make the final frame look much neater. Additionally, these detached sleeves slip down very easily; applying a small amount of double-sided tape or a safety pin inside the sleeve cuff to secure them helps immensely with shooting efficiency.

Overall, this look possesses immense versatility, comfortably steering between gentle and playful states. I have documented and summarized the presentation of different poses through this photo set; if anyone has better posing concepts, you can absolutely continue to expand your imagination on this foundation.
