[Honkai: Star Rail Firefly Cosplay] Where Should Dreams Return: Being an Ordinary High School Girl

This time, I shot Firefly's JK school style together with Lushen-laoshi. After receiving the finished photos, I felt my mood brighten up immediately.

I had been thinking before about how Firefly as a character carries a heavy sense of tragedy and destiny—the lines 'where should dreams return' and 'wishing Firefly could be like an ordinary girl' truly touched me deeply. Therefore, for this shoot, we intentionally set aside the sci-fi and mecha elements from her original design, keeping only her iconic long wavy hair with silver-white to lake-blue gradient, and her leaf hair accessory with mint green and gold trim, paired with a very everyday modified sailor uniform.

Much thought went into choosing the outfit. The top features a pure white base paired with a dark gray-blue sailor collar, tied with a lake-blue bow at the neckline, and exquisite gold thread embroidered patterns on the cuffs and sleeves, giving the garment great texture while retaining character-specific markings. The lower body is paired with a dark-based plaid pleated skirt interwoven with yellow and blue, alongside white over-the-knee socks and black thick-soled leather shoes, creating a classic Japanese JK uniform photography look.

For the location, we chose a modern building corridor with excellent lighting, where vibrant green plants thrive outside the large floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall. When sunlight streams through the glass, the cool and clean light and shadow effects look particularly good. During the shoot, we tried our best to recreate the genuine School life vibe of a real high school girl. For example, walking back and forth, glancing back casually on the stairs; standing by the railing, reaching out to feel the breeze; or that photo sitting crouched on the edge of the glass roof, utilizing the mirror reflection from the glass surface to create great depth in composition. Additionally, two close-ups I particularly love: one leaning against the glass where sunlight leaves dappled spots beside my face with delicate strands of floating hair, and the other picking up a public phone receiver and looking into the camera, hoping to convey an emotion of waiting or anticipation.

In terms of makeup, we intentionally subdued the eye makeup colors, using light-colored contacts and a straight eyeliner to highlight her cool, distant quality, with only a noticeably rosy color on the lips so the overall look wouldn't be too pale. The wig was combed for a long time before the shoot, specially styled to achieve a naturally fluffy, layered look with slightly curled ends. Lushen-laoshi was extremely accurate in capturing dynamic moments—several shots of turning the head or spinning around were actually frozen moments of casual movement, with none of the stiffness of forced posing.

We also discussed the post-production tone together, ultimately deciding on a translucent, cool-toned palette that preserves the texture of indoor white walls and glass without over-smoothing. This makes facial features look more three-dimensional while evoking a campus atmosphere that is gently melancholic yet exceedingly tender. Being able to express her inner desire for an ordinary life through such a set of photos feels deeply meaningful to me. This shoot also gave me a new understanding of character portrayal, and I hope to try more themes with contrasting character dynamics in the future to present different facets of characters to everyone.
