The trip to the IDO Anime Convention at Beijing Exhibition Center has officially kicked off! This time, I arrived on-site with the full "I am Elation" Sparkle cosplay look, from costume fitting and makeup to prop preparation, finally capturing convention photos in this hall filled with dramatic lighting effects. Slipping into this high-saturation red-and-black outfit, paired with the iconic twin-tail wig, the large red bow atop my head, and holding that red-and-white mask, I instantly locked into the character's groove. For the makeup, I emphasized expressive eye details and the delicate red cheek marks, striving to visually capture her distinct aura perched between mystery and playful teasing.
In terms of costume selection, what catches the eye most in this styling is the intricate coordination of details. The tube-top red cropped upper paired with semi-sheer tulle sleeves creates rich visual depth, while the dark brown obi-style wide corset belt cinches the waistline, highlighted by a starry-textured blue orb ornament that serves as the crowning touch. The lower half features a long red haori coat with gold piping and print motifs; its loose, flared drape generates wonderful visual volume. On my feet, the platform red lace-up geta clogs and the tiny gold bells tied around my ankles became standout focal points during the shoot—not only visually elongating leg proportions, but also adding a lively character agility with every soft chime as I walked.
To capture the best lighting effects, we deliberately utilized the bank of ceiling lights inside the convention hall during shooting. When this hard top-light poured straight down, it created beautiful rim lighting along my head and shoulders while plunging the vast background into deep shadows, making the character pop dramatically. I posed seated on a black flight case and a metal bar stool, experimenting with varied seating postures. The photographer cleverly used low-angle shots to lengthen leg lines while fully showcasing the intricate design of the geta clogs and straps. In several poses, I held the mask to the side of my face or before my chest, allowing active interaction with the prop while preventing harsh overhead light from casting unflattering facial shadows.
Regarding this itinerary, I will be at the Beijing Exhibition Center for both days from January 11 to 12. As for the common practice of scheduling convention photo shoots, I am very open to it. Navigating the hall with full gear and an elaborate wig without collaborating with photographers skilled at candid captures would truly be a missed opportunity for such meticulous dedication. The convention atmosphere is always thrilling, and I did my best to maintain peak energy throughout the venue. To ensure smoother shooting, I applied anti-slip grips to the soles of the geta clogs in advance, allowing me to step onto black stools or sit directly on concrete floors stably for crossed-leg or extended poses without fearing slips.
Although moving through packed crowds with full props and long wigs posed some inconvenience, requiring constant attention to keep the garments pristine, standing before the lens made everything feel deeply worthwhile. Recreating her confident, mischievous, and lively persona was nicely realized through the atmosphere and body language in this photo set. Every cosplay journey is a continuous exploration and recreation of a character's core soul, and I am thrilled to document these shining moments of this trip through this Event photo delivery.
