The returned photos from Day 3 of the 35th Firefly ACG Expo are finally sorted out—this time shooting Verina cosplay from Wuthering Waves. Choosing to do a photoshoot outside the venue on the third day of the event was actually a bit risky because the weather that day was far from perfect: yellow leaves were scattered across the ground, and the flagstone path, having just experienced a light rain, was slightly reflective. Yet it was precisely this damp environment that collided with this green-to-white gradient outfit, sparking a uniquely fresh and natural vibe.
Regarding this styling, I'd like to focus on the wig and prop combination. The wig features a light, airy pale blonde with a very natural green gradient at the tips, beautifully echoing the outfit's color scheme. The fluffy white bow hair accessory on top, paired with delicate white flowers beside the ears, creates an asymmetrical subtle detail that adds depth to the overall look. The black choker around the neck provides a great visual focal point for the upper body, which, together with the brown flower buckle on the gloves, retains the character's sweetness without looking overly plain.
The cut of the outfit was another key focus during this shoot. The sleeveless strap design combined with an asymmetrical skirt hem truly puts posture control to the test. Standing stiffly would easily look flat, so I intentionally made adjustments to my poses. For instance, I asked photographer @八次方根 to snap jumps in mid-air, or utilized half-body close-ups with my hands resting on my chin to showcase costume details. The curved vine prop with several white blossoms in my hand served as the soul of the ensemble; using it as a foreground element or resting it over my wrist greatly enriched the visual narrative.
Speaking of photographer synergy, the shutter timing for these returned photos was selected with exceptional precision. Since the damp ground reflected light, we made full use of the surrounding parasols and yellow leaves as natural backdrops, choosing a wide aperture to create a soft, blurred background. This highlighted the subject without letting messy background clutter steal the show. In terms of color grading, we preserved that bright, cool-white feel of post-rain sunlight as much as possible, keeping the overall tone clear and natural—perfectly matching the relaxed and candid atmosphere of convention photos.
Regarding pose guidance, the biggest difference between convention photos and pure studio shoots lies in the ambient light and surrounding atmosphere. Although there was a light breeze outdoors that day, it turned out to be an added bonus—moments like turning around to look back or balancing on one leg allowed the wig and its gradient tips to create a lively sense of movement. I strove to convey the character's playful, nimble nature, passing along Verina's vibrant energy in Wuthering Waves. Though passersby occasionally walked past during the shoot, we quickly found optimal angles, leveraging walkways and greenery to frame a semi-enclosed shooting space.
For me, cosplay is not just about donning a costume, but truly understanding the character. Verina's demeanor leans toward natural elegance and agility, so when crafting expressions and movements, I consciously avoided being overly theatrical, using my gaze and body language to embody a genuine sense of ease. Spending Day 3 at the 35th Firefly ACG Expo allowed me not only to experience the lively convention atmosphere but also to leave a sincere visual record in that tiny outdoor courtyard. I hope the colors and mood of these returned photos faithfully recreate the character as everyone imagines her.
