[Zhen Hai cosplay] A Cool and Elegant Dark Profile

This photoshoot chooses a modified black cheongsam and transparent sheer black mesh gloves, aiming to present the cool and mysterious atmosphere of the character.

The wig underwent highly multi-layered trimming, especially the thick sideburns on both sides. To achieve a balance between flowing lightness and thickness during trimming, I asked the stylist to thin out the inner volume. This way, even without wind, there is a natural visual drape, while the evenly thinned bangs beautifully frame the contours of the face.

The focus of the makeup was placed on the eyes; the red colored contacts combined with large areas of blended red eyeshadow, paired with a cool white-toned foundation and clean, pure lip color, create a sharp contrast between warm and cool tones. This makeup effect only reached its current satisfying state after numerous trials.

The metal flower accessories and draping tassels on the costume are the soul of this outfit. The material's luster and shimmer heavily test the lighting. To match the silver-gold metallic decorations on the chest, the headpiece also incorporates a matching palette of rhinestones and pearls adorned on black velvet. Although the weight increased, it helps the overall accuracy immensely.

Additionally, the black fluffy fan used as an accompaniment looks lightweight but actually feels quite heavy in hand. It serves as an excellent support point when posing, enhancing the overall sense of balance. The semi-transparent texture of the sheer black gloves perfectly neutralizes the dullness of the black outfit, making the off-the-shoulder design appear much softer.

The ambient lighting for this shoot was carefully considered, utilizing a blue-tinted, low-key side-rim lighting. This light effectively brightens the reflective surfaces of the hair strands and accessories while keeping the black clothing from turning into a muddy, dead black. I put effort into managing the character's demeanor, focusing my gaze toward the front of the camera lens as much as possible, while intentionally leaving a certain blank canvas in my expressions without letting emotions overflow, thereby aligning with the character's innate sense of aloofness and elegance.

In fact, every time I portray a character with numerous gorgeous accessories for a roleplay session, the makeup, styling, and gear preparation consume most of the day. Along with adjusting the precise positioning of the accessories, the process is exhausting. Fortunately, the final photos managed to recreate the exact effect I imagined for this Dark style cosplay. Although the set is just a very simple solid-colored background, as long as the light, shadow, costume, makeup, and props are all on point, it maximizes the character's inherent temperament.
