For this shoot, I selected a vibrant crimson long straight wig paired with pink-and-black Animal ears. To enrich styling dimensions, I added round metal-framed glasses and black criss-cross hairpins along the left side. The makeup centered around the eyes with light-hazel lenses and a wash of red smudging at the outer corners to echo the hair color, finished over a pristine, luminous base with a playful left-eye wink to project spunky, lively energy.
The wardrobe primarily featured a black long-sleeved jacket trimmed in hot pink piping with white dotted topstitching—a collision of techwear and cuteness that I adore. Layered beneath was a white collared shirt with a black bow tie, a black choker, and a hot pink armband on the left sleeve bearing striking typography. Dangling from my wrist was a pink-striped cat plush with exaggerated stitched facial features, echoing the red paw prints on the jacket. Silver triangular buckles and zipper hardware further elevated tactile quality.
Despite having numerous styling elements, the ensemble looked remarkably cohesive. To accentuate the vivid wig, I rolled up the sleeves slightly, raising an arm to point an index finger toward the ear headband for a natural, cheeky pose. Natural lighting was bright on set; the photographer provided frontal fill to render the wig's silky sheen and garment details cleanly. Shot inside an Anime convention hall, the messy background of blue exhibition boards and promo posters was melted away using wide apertures to make the subject pop.
For posing choreography, I favored natural expressions over stiff, contrived stances—feigning adjusting my glasses, tapping my cheek, and ultimately finding that pointing to the ears was the most dynamic. Managing the wig was quite an undertaking: volumizing spray was applied to the roots, while a flat iron curled the ends slightly to ensure fluid motion during movement.
The catalyst for this shoot was celebrating the Neverness to Everness open beta events. Gacha luck is notoriously fickle, and I experienced the classic bittersweet tale: the great news was finishing this costume and capturing photos I truly love, nailing the playful charm with the cat ears and wink. The bad news? I struck out completely on my desired in-game character pull, left crying while editing photos as everyone else flexed their pulls online! Putting together a cosplay demands extensive effort—from testing frames to finding that exact pair of glasses and tracking down the cat plush to enrich compositions.
During shooting, the photographer had me cycle through hands in pockets and resting my chin, but pointing to the ear remained the standout frame. High color contrast between pitch black and hot pink popped brilliantly on camera. Because it was an on-location convention shoot, I kept a touch-up kit ready to maintain a fresh, shine-free matte base.
