Today I am bringing you this Shu cosplay photoshoot from Arknights, showcasing our Convention photos and Event photo delivery. The visual anchor of this styling lies in the blue-and-gold gradient wig: styling the blue tips of the bangs and sideburns required generous amounts of hairspray to maintain their graceful sweep. Paired with the yellow horn accessories tipped with blue and the white ring ornament atop the head, the ensemble evokes an ethereal, magnificent fantasy presence. The elf ears also required meticulous angle adjustments to blend seamlessly into the wig.
In terms of makeup, to ensure a translucent complexion under the convention hall's complex lighting, I focused heavily on concealing and highlighting the base. The eye makeup introduced deeper layered eyeshadow, enlarging the eyes while preserving the character's serene, gentle demeanor. For the lips, I selected a natural reddish hue to avoid looking harsh.
Costume coordination was another centerpiece of this cosplay. The top features an off-the-shoulder cut layered with white lace and tulle across the chest, draped with wide white flowing sleeves embroidered with blue cloud motifs at the cuffs. The light-blue gown on the lower half boasts excellent drape, with golden diamond patterns and stitching details along the hem all sewn by hand. A white sash cinched the waist, making my overall silhouette appear taller and more slender.
For props, the white folding fan served as an indispensable finishing touch; with its delicate openwork cutouts and gold patterns, it offered versatile posing possibilities in hand. I also brought along a white plush doll wearing green-rimmed glasses, creating a charming and playful contrast with the character's aesthetic.
Shooting on location at the convention, the biggest hurdles were light control and pedestrian interference. To make the subject pop, the photographer utilized a large-aperture prime lens, melting away background crowds and stage rigging into creamy bokeh. In posing, I strove to fan out the billowing sleeves—such as raising the folding fan high with one hand while gazing upward, or holding up the skirt hem for a backward over-the-shoulder glance—stances that maximized the garment's flowing lightness. Each flick of the fan and rustle of the skirt hem brought organic kinetic motion that brought the character vividly to life.
In truth, after changing into this outfit inside the hall, mobility was severely constrained. The wide sleeves had an expansive span and could easily brush against adjacent booths or passersby if I wasn't vigilant, so I had to hold my wrists up whenever moving. Additionally, the light-blue gown could easily soil on the venue floor, so to protect shot quality, I largely restricted my movement between the rest area and the photography zone. Adjusting the grip on the folding fan was equally nuanced: the ribs had to nestle right into the crook of the thumb and index finger, flicked open with wrist torque so the fan spread into an immaculate arc. Before the shoot, I practiced opening and closing the fan in front of the mirror countless times to make the motion look seamless and second nature on camera. The little plush companion also brightened the photoshoot's mood, its adorable contrast injecting a touch of warmth into this aloof styling. From makeup to on-set lighting, while the journey was taxing, seeing the interplay of chiaroscuro in the final images made every ounce of effort completely worthwhile.
