My last Reimu Hakurei Cosplay shoot of 2025 was set to a completely casual and free-spirited tone; just as I wrote in the post, my mindset was totally "laid-back." However, even in a laid-back state, all the necessary details of the styling were executed to the fullest. The main red-and-white costume, the wavy lace along the hem, the wide white flowing sleeves specially paired this time, and the arm warmers with geometric patterns, along with the iconic giant red-and-white bow on the head and long twin-tailsāthe layered feel of the overall look was brought out instantly. Paired with the makeup featuring slightly reddish pupils intentionally done for this shoot, it carries a touch of agility within the cool demeanor.
During the shoot, I really enjoyed that feeling of going with the flow. Instead of deliberately pursuing a grand narrative, I just made use of the studio's rockeries, yellow-and-white flower bouquets, and some white drapery, combined with a high-key lighting setup that felt full of sunlight, creating a bright and ethereal atmosphere. The wooden staff I used as a prop acted as a guide post at times and a fluid extension of my movements at others; together with the flowing water sleeves, it perfectly captured an unusual sense of agility. As for the shot where I held an amulet in my mouth, it was entirely a spontaneous moment of fooling around, and it became one of my favorite moments of the day.
In terms of costumes, makeup, and props, besides the iconic outfit and bow, I really love the combination of the red Mary Jane shoes and white thigh-high socks, which both preserves the traditional feel of a shrine maiden outfit and adds a touch of modern cuteness and playfulness. This relaxed and casual shooting style felt friendlier to myself in front of the lens, allowing me to better showcase the soft and vibrant side of the character.
Regarding the shooting process, everyone was actually very relaxed. Thanks to the photographer's guidance and the makeup artist's meticulous execution, the hair and makeup were handled in an exceptionally clean and sleek manner. That long staff and the amulets served as a "bridge" for my interaction with the camera right from the start of the shoot. Whether it was the pose holding the amulets or attempting to master that long staff for some high-difficulty movements, the entire process was filled with little episodes and brought many cute moments. This set of photos is not just about replicating a character from a work; it feels more like a gentle farewell to this year's Anime-style photography journey. In other people's eyes, doing a formal Cosplay photoshoot might need to be very serious, but my personal understanding is that letting the character's soul ignite a new spark through one's own interpretation is what's most interesting. Those days in 2025 spent wearing the red-and-white shrine maiden outfit are undoubtedly a part of my most precious memories of the year. This photo set captures the unique relaxation of the year-end, and that's wonderful.
