I completed this set of outdoor photography in the evening primrose field at Dong'an Lake Park, using a Sony A7M4 paired with a Sigma 85mm f/1.4 lens. The primary reason for choosing this flower field is that the pink and white evening primroses, combined with the greenery backdrop, beautifully complement the layers of the red and white costume. Transportation here is quite convenient: take the subway to Jiepai Station, exit from Exit B, and follow the signs inside the park to walk a short distance to see the vast expanse of the flower field. If driving, navigating to the "Shikong Huahai" (Space-Time Flower Sea) allows you to park right nearby.
The preparation before the shoot was actually more complicated than imagined, especially the wig and accessories for this look. The long black hair is paired with straight bangs, with red and white checkered hair accessories with tassels fixed on both sides, and the massive red bow on the headpiece required repeated angle adjustments so it wouldn't look clunky under the influence of the wind. To reduce the burden during the shoot, the white lace sleeves of the costume were made detachable, but even so, the wide water sleeves still heavily tested the model's control when posing, as a slight lapse in attention would block the facial contours.
The selected Sigma 85mm wide-aperture lens offers an excellent compression effect outdoors, turning the background evening primroses and trees into beautiful blurred light spots. The lighting on the day of the shoot was relatively soft, and by adjusting the camera's white balance parameters, the overall color tone leaned toward a warm, breezy feel. During the shoot, we intentionally combined multiple compositions, featuring both half-body close-ups under top lighting and low-angle camera positions within the bushes to capture the fusion of the character and the environment. For the multi-layered wooden bell prop used in picture five, paired with a rainbow ribbon, the shutter speed was adjusted to a relatively high setting at the exact moment of swinging, successfully capturing the dynamic movement of the fluttering ribbon. To keep the frame clean, a tighter framing was chosen during photography, mainly to avoid clutter and other tourists in the background.
The approach for post-processing was to steer the overall environmental color tones down a soft, low-saturation path, making the pink tones of the evening primroses look more natural. As for the skin tone, the original texture was preserved with slight adjustments to dim the highlights, preventing overexposure caused by outdoor lighting. Most of the pose settings in this shoot were focused on static presentation, occasionally combined with dynamic snapshots of waving sleeves or holding props, hoping to restore the character's gentle yet slightly eccentric temperament. Being able to record this set of images during this blooming season made the entire process very enjoyable, and the light, shadow, and costume details of the final photos were all handled within the expected range.
