The shooting process at CPSP Guangzhou went quite smoothly overall. Since both Master Jianbing and I are introverts (MBTI 'I' types), our pre-shoot chat was brief, but we clicked right away, and the shooting rhythm felt very comfortable once we got into the groove. Cosplaying Marisa from Touhou Project, the trickiest elements of this costume were the oversized witch hat and the layered apron lace. Styling the wig also took considerable effort—especially the side braids and straight bangs; to keep them neat all day, I used plenty of setting spray.
During the shoot, the octagonal prop (Mini-Hakkero) and the broom were much heavier than expected; balancing them single-handedly was a huge drain on stamina, making me admire veteran cosplayers who carry oversized props for long periods even more. The overhead lighting in the convention hall was quite harsh, easily casting shadows on the face, so we repositioned several times to leverage ambient light angles, combined with the photographer's aperture settings to blur out the cluttered background crowds and emphasize the main subject through depth of field.
We took several sets of poses, and I especially loved the composition holding the broom and the octagonal prop—not only clearly showcasing the purple ribbon bows and star patterns on the dress, but also highlighting the White tights cosplay / white stockings and layered skirt tiers. The convention environment was bustling with people walking in the background, so capturing relatively clean shots truly required patience to wait for the right timing.
For hair and makeup, the green colored contacts and soft pink lip makeup closely matched the canon character design, looking wonderful under ample camera lighting. Even though conventions are exhausting, seeing the final Convention photos made all the effort of the day feel completely worthwhile. We didn't have time to capture certain angles, such as more full-body dynamic poses, so I hope to collaborate with Master Jianbing again next time to explore more interesting compositions and perspectives. This post is mainly to document a project I prepared for a long time, and the entire photoshoot was truly enjoyable.
