[Tewi Inaba cosplay] Bunny-Eared Girl in the Bamboo Forest: The Lively Charm of Touhou Project

Today I am sharing a set of Tewi Inaba cosplay Cosplay photoshoot photos completed in a Japanese style courtyard and outdoor bamboo forest. As a character I love deeply in Touhou Project, during early preparation I specifically combined her original setting of black hair and red eyes with her iconic bunny ears and carrot elements, hoping to recreate that lightweight feel of a Gensokyo creature.

Regarding hair and makeup, the black wig was styled as a short cut with curved straight bangs, appearing visually lightweight. Paired with red contact lenses, it highlights the focal point of her gaze under intense natural light. For makeup, the base was clean and translucent, with orange-pink eyeshadow and blush primarily used to bring out that lively charm with a hint of subtle slyness. For attire, I chose this light pink lace puff-sleeve dress, featuring cute plaid-patterned carrot ornaments and pendants on the chest and waist, as well as red drawstrings at the neckline—details that fit the playful setting of a rabbit yokai perfectly.

The shooting locations for this set were split into indoor and outdoor parts. Indoors featured a typical Japanese style tatami room and wooden shoji doors, where sunlight passing through the wooden lattice created lovely light spots and light leaks on the floor and clothes, offering great layering of light and shadow. I tried poses leaning against the door, sitting on a zabuton cushion, and sitting directly on the floor. In particular, barefoot shots paired with the skin texture illuminated by light fit the cozy atmosphere of resting indoors nicely.

The outdoor scene was set on stone steps in a lush bamboo forest. For props, I brought a woven bamboo basket containing several realistic fake carrots. For outdoor shooting, I changed into white socks and brown Mary Jane shoes, holding the basket while capturing snapshot poses of single-leg hops and looking back over my shoulder, creating a dynamic-static contrast with the indoor static feel and maximizing the Japanese style atmosphere. Although interacting by biting a carrot prop looked playful, in reality, I needed to carefully control my gaze and facial muscles so as not to appear stiff.

Regarding my understanding of Tewi Inaba, her lore setting is not a simple "cute girl," but rather a rabbit yokai with her own little calculations and a knack for playing pranks. Thus, regarding expression control, I deliberately refrained from keeping a sweet smile at all times, instead allowing a hint of cleverness and distance to peek through her eyes in side-profile or head-down angles. Under the light and shadow of the bamboo forest environment, this nuanced expression actually enhanced the character's three-dimensional presence.

The entire shooting process went smoothly, and photographer Wakaba captured the relationship between light and environment wonderfully. Among them, a photo walking through the bamboo forest carrying the basket had the most satisfying overall composition and bodily stretch, making it one of the most expressive shots in this work. Combining elements of scene, costume, light, and shadow, this work brings together Anime-style photography to present the visual effect of Touhou Project's Tewi Inaba.
