On March 22, the outdoor cosplay photoshoot for this Daqiao Bridal Skin look was completed. I had always wanted to release this styling in a location that features both waterscapes and mountains, and this time it has finally been realized.
The sunlight was great on the day of the shoot, but the wind by the water was a bit strong. Coincidentally, this dynamic movement of the veil and skirt hem being blown by the wind perfectly fits the lightweight and dreamy setting of Daqiao Bridal Skin. This costume holds many details; the layered lace on the upper body and the deep blue sash at the waist outline the overall silhouette. The white semi-translucent veil combined with the silver crown, paired with the light purplish-blue long wig, creates excellent layers under natural light. For the makeup, a cool-toned purplish-red palette was selected to make the temperament even softer and more graceful.
During the shooting process, I experimented with various poses holding the bouquet, and close-up shots could beautifully display the facial features and makeup/styling details. Sitting down on the reef rocks or leaning against the railings to gaze out over the water made it very easy to integrate the character into the backdrop where the water meets the sky. At dusk, the sunlight reflected off the water surface formed a dazzling shimmer, and the silhouette effect from backlit shooting carried a special sense of storytelling. The overall tone of the character was rendered much softer by the natural light.
During post-processing, I moderately raised the overall brightness, preserving the lace texture of the clothes and the pleats of the skirt hem. This was a highly fulfilling experience for me as an anime cosplayer; aside from being a bit tiring to manage the wig and veil so they wouldn't fly around wildly, the overall shooting atmosphere was very friendly. The faint light by the water and the blue-and-white costume jointly created the cool aloofness and ethereal aura of these photos.
The cooperation with the photographer was also highly seamless, from lifting the skirt hem to adjusting the angles of the props, doing our best to restore the character image in our minds. Shooting a finished photoshoot is not just about putting on the character's clothes, but even more about experiencing their temperament. The bridal theme itself naturally carries a gentle gracefulness, which, combined with large areas of cool tones, will hopefully bring a peaceful and gentle feeling visually. There are many uncontrollable factors in outdoor locations, but the light and wind conversely became the best assistants for this set of photos. After completing this work, I also feel much more confident in mastering this costume.
