[Seiga Kaku Cosplay] Touhou Project Firefly ACG Expo On-Site Photoshoot and Styling Insights

This set of Seiga Kaku cosplay Convention photos documented at the Firefly ACG Expo generally met my basic expectations for this character. The location was on the outdoor pavement outside the convention venue, where white ground reflections were fairly strong, so lighting relied primarily on natural outdoor sunlight supplemented by local reflectors. Teal and cyan tones heavily depend on ambient lighting; this high-brightness diffuse reflection allowed the cyan hues of the outfit to appear remarkably translucent and airy, avoiding the dullness in color that often happens with indoor studio shoots.

For wig styling, I chose a short teal wig with high fluffiness, where the iconic looped structure at the top serves as the visual focal point. To keep it standing upright, I used lightweight support materials inside the prop and adjusted the overall weight distribution. This ensured that even while walking around the convention grounds for extended periods or facing outdoor breezes, this rabbit-ear-shaped headpiece wouldn't tilt or deform. The hair trimming deliberately preserved wispy strands and layered depth, which, interacting with the breeze on site, offered plenty of dynamic agility. The front of the hair ornament was also accented with a few small flowers to add a touch of soft detail.

The makeup this time leaned toward heavier color. I opted for wide-spread reddish-pink eyeshadow smudging extended outward, paired with slender false eyelashes and vibrant red lips, which effectively balanced out the high-saturation teal wig. The focus of the makeup lay in balancing a clean base with striking eye makeup. This color scheme showed high recognition under outdoor natural light, creating a wonderful collision of warm and cool colors against the overall cool-toned outfit. For the choker, I chose a wide cyan material with fabric texture that sat snugly at the collarbones, drawing focus to the neck and shoulder lines.

As for the outfit, it incorporated a modified Chinese-style cosplay design with a white base and cyan trimming. The top featured an off-the-shoulder cut, with neckline edges decorated with pink bead strings and hand-sewn flowers that neutralized the coldness of the predominant cyan-and-white scheme. The chest fabric joined deep-blue water-ripple subtle patterns, while the waist utilized delicate metallic chains paired with teal and pink tassels, offering great dynamic feedback when walking. The wide sleeves joined white gauze with cyan piping accented with white lace appliqués; this fabric selection preserved the flowing elegance of Chinese style while reducing total outfit weight, making it easy to shuttle through crowded spots at the Firefly ACG Expo without heavy burden.

The prop was meticulously chosen to match. I held a long, thin black rod topped with a giant artificial cyan flower, with translucent beads and long teal tassels suspended beneath. The tassel texture appeared exceptionally translucent under outdoor light; holding it required maintaining a specific tilted angle so the tassels and bead strings would display a natural hanging drop effect. Throughout the shoot, leveraging this prop added fantastic visual depth to the compositions, whether in straightforward eye-level shots or when used as a foreground element.

The bustling atmosphere at the Firefly ACG Expo indeed added some difficulty to the shoot, with passersby frequently appearing in the background. However, after the photographer used a wide aperture to blur the background, the subject remained clearly highlighted. This authentic event backdrop actually imbued the photo set with a unique sense of live presence exclusive to convention photos. During breaks while walking the convention hall, I met several fellow fans interested in Touhou Project; discussing and connecting over this character made memories of this expo even more vivid. Overall, from selecting garment fabrics and makeup coordination to experimenting with movements and demeanor, this Seiga Kaku cosplay enabled me to present the character's signature confidence and lightness in front of the lens, making it a deeply fulfilling photoshoot experience.
