[Bronya cosplay] Honkai Impact 3rd Summer Swimsuit at Los Angeles Comic Con

This time at Anime Expo 2023 during the Los Angeles Comic Con season, I presented the new swimsuit look for Bronya from Honkai Impact 3rd. The preparation was quite elaborate; to faithfully capture the delicate, breezy elegance of this summer skin, I spent considerable time perfecting the hair, makeup, and garment details. Los Angeles has a relatively dry climate, so to prevent makeup from breaking down, I deliberately used long-lasting, sun-protective base products. I also chose a lightweight, breathable wig material so it wouldn't lose its shape after a long day of walking the convention floor. The main design challenge of this swimsuit was securing the straps and achieving a tailored fit. To showcase that blend of softness and quiet strength from the original concept art in real life, I worked with a tailor to adjust the pattern repeatedly while ensuring comfort of movement. To create a sharper visual contrast between the dark top and light hair, I made numerous fine-tunings to the accessories to avoid compromising the aesthetic of the original design.

On the day of the shoot, I arrived early to scout the venue for the most even lighting, ensuring skin tones and costume colors wouldn't be distorted in the photos. Once I arrived at Entertainment Hall booth E-8, the on-site atmosphere was buzzing with energy. Many players recognized Bronya immediately and came over for photos, with some even kindly offering me bottled water. Their positive feedback made all the preparatory effort feel completely worthwhile. Throughout the day, I stayed attentive to my makeup, touching up every few hours, resetting the hairstyle, and constantly checking that costume accessories hadn't worked loose. Because the theme of this skin is a summer swimsuit, maintaining a poised, fresh deportment was ideal; I chose poses that evoked a relaxing summer holiday, paired with a natural smile. The shot on the right side of the poster was snapped candidly on-site; the photographer utilized the convention's complex lighting to trace out the character's silhouette. Although the promotional text slightly crowded the composition, I really love the overall photographic texture.

Regarding my interpretation of Bronya, I inclined toward expressing her cool exterior paired with an inner gentleness, so rather than forcing overt cuteness, I aimed for a composed, self-assured presence. To endure the heavy foot traffic and long queues typical of LA conventions, I wore cushioned insoles; although the boots were somewhat heavy, walking remained steady. The summer vibe in Los Angeles was fantastic, and I took time to browse other exhibition halls, seeing plenty of remarkable cosplay works. While the event was tiring, seeing players genuinely delighted by an accurate character portrayal is the purest joy of being a cosplayer. Interacting face-to-face with fellow fans showed me everyone's enduring passion for the character and offered an authentic connection unlike anything in cyberspace.
