The convention photos shot at the Zhuhai garden party have finally been exported. This time I'm cosplaying Hidden Sword. Since it happens to be the JX3 17th Anniversary, I deliberately chose this classic yellow-and-white color-matching outfit. There are really many details to this costume, especially the metal accessories at the waist and the black corset, coupled with the heavy heavy-sword prop, which truly tests physical strength when held for a long time. However, in this outdoor environment, the sunlight hitting the fabric and accessories of the clothes gave an unexpectedly good texture. The sword-holding pose in picture 2 is one that I am personally very satisfied with, feeling like it established the spirited and upright temperament of the sect. The small yellow chicken doll wearing a mask on my shoulder was brought extra; it happens to echo the overall color scheme, adding a bit of contrast cuteness to the originally handsome styling, and many photographers also like to capture this small detail.
The wig styling also took a lot of effort this time: black hair mixed with silver hair accessories, and a golden ginkgo leaf patch glued to the forehead. To maintain this fluffiness, it took a long time to style it early in the morning at the hotel. In terms of makeup, to match the outdoor lighting of the garden party, the layering of blush and eye makeup was increased, and the overall result is quite satisfactory. The prop sword is relatively large, which is actually quite inconvenient when walking around the exhibition site, often having to be careful not to bump into passersby. However, shooting in a venue where the background consists of metal trusses and blue sunshades instead gave a strong sense of collision between modern anime conventions and Chinese-style elements. There was also a huge yellow cartoon inflatable model at the site, forming a wonderful echo with my color scheme.
To be honest, coming to Zhuhai to attend the garden party this trip was quite a toss-up. Guangdong is really too far from Shanghai, and flying over felt like my body was falling apart. Plus, the exhibition venue was particularly large, and walking around for a day left my feet feeling like they weren't my own. There were many people at the site, but the atmosphere was exceptionally good. I met many enthusiastic photographers and quite a few friends for photo stamps. Everyone exchanged styling tips, which made me feel that making this trip was still very worthwhile. But to be fair, Cantonese food is genuinely delicious; shrimp dumplings and roast goose completely healed me, so it wasn't a wasted trip. I originally wanted to edit the video on the plane, but in the rush, there was simply not enough time, so I can only slowly work on it after returning to Shanghai. After all, video editing requires a lot of time and quiet conception, which is indeed hard to achieve during travel.
I'm about to board the plane back to Shanghai, and this time I'm ready to go back and continue focusing on 2D. Actually, every time after participating in such large-scale offline events, there is always a sense of dissociation that is both exhausted and fulfilling, taking several days to recover energy. Although I had a lot of fun here, considering the physical consumption of long-distance travel and the convenience of carrying a large amount of clothing and props, it would be great if next year's event is still held in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region—close by, convenient for round trips, allowing me to bring a few more sets of clothes to shoot and having more energy to prepare. This time doing Hidden Sword cosplay, from costume adjustments to prop matching, a lot of thought went into it, which can be considered a perfect wrap-up for this period of preparation. Next time I'll take a good rest in Shanghai and incidentally arrange the upcoming shooting plans. See you in Shanghai!
