[Aozaki Aoko cosplay] Clock Tower 2015 in Witch on the Holy Night and Fate/Grand Order

The theme for this photoshoot was set around Clock Tower 2015. The core prop for this session was a vintage suitcase filled with items representing the character's personal history: playing cards, a glass candy jar, black-rimmed glasses, and several photos of friends. While prepping these props, I felt that these still objects tell a story far better than spoken lines.

The detail I most want to share is that letter. For the handwriting on the envelope, I specifically requested 'Aozaki' instead of 'Aoko.' This is a subtle nuance: here, it represents not merely Aoko as an individual, but the family name—carrying a legacy, responsibility, or an inescapable destiny. The letter itself was an obituary; drafting the text took considerable thought, hoping the handwritten script on the page would convey a profound sorrow beneath a steely exterior.

The location was a park, where the afternoon sun formed perfect backlighting. Photographer TiebanYouyu possessed great skill in capturing light, using a wide aperture to melt the background tree shadows into soft blur, giving the white T-shirt and red hair crisp, vibrant layering. When shooting this white T-shirt and jeans look, I tried to empty my facial expressions; that seemingly calm yet detached state under backlighting vividly captured her aura of someone wandering beyond the mundane world.

The overhead shot lying on the bench was my suggestion, as the open wooden trunk lying beside me looked like a silent witness to a brief respite before departing once more. Throughout the shoot, I pondered her perspective on parting ways. Pairing everyday attire (a plain white T-shirt) with an extraordinary identity created a delicate, subtle contrast. While this set doesn't emphasize ornate costumes, conveying raw emotion is far more crucial than flashy outfits—this is the very core of cosplay to me.

During retouching, film grain and desaturated tones were deliberately preserved. This slightly cooler, muted palette better suited the vintage backdrop of Clock Tower 2015 while accentuating the visual punch of the red hair. TiebanYouyu was meticulous with composition; viewing the letter as the key bridge connecting the story within and beyond the frame, he captured multiple close-ups of the envelope, even letting the letter peek out slightly at the edge to enhance poetic negative space.

Though I wasn't wearing an elaborate magus outfit, opting instead for a simple white tee and denim jeans, that very contrast is what makes the character so compelling. She appears to be an ordinary girl, yet shoulders immense power and solitude incomprehensible to others. Standing roadside reading that letter felt like unlocking a chest of old memories across a long journey of life, letting viewers feel the heavy weight of the past. Capturing that exact nuanced expression required repeated adjustments—reading the letter, looking up into the distance, and aligning the downward gaze precisely at the center of the frame. As for the photos of friends in the suitcase, I spent a long time scouting vintage-looking pictures before the shoot so they felt like authentic memories. Bringing the character's inner world to life is truly the greatest joy of creating this cosplay work.
