For this Evernight cosplay photoshoot, I started refining costume details half a month in advance. Although this Honkai: Star Rail design is predominantly black and red, during actual crafting, the white ruffled frills at the collar and cuffs alone went through three revisions. The tailoring of Evernight's coat is exceptionally meticulous; to recreate that crisp, structured vintage Gothic style feel, I chose heavy satin with a subtle sheen, layered over a red-and-black spliced vest. The chest and waist are accented with silver chains and star-cross metallic charms that clink softly with every step.
Regarding the wig, to achieve an airy pink texture, I did extensive thinning and layering, topping it with a butterfly hair accessory with a blue shimmer. The makeup emphasized under-eye blush and reddish blending at the outer corners of the eyes, echoing the character's mysterious, fragile aura. For gloves, I chose black fingerless leather gloves, which both flatter hand lines and make handling props much easier.
The set arrangement on the day of the shoot was very elaborate. The photo studio was decorated with antique-gold birdcages, white stone pillars, and angel statues, with the floor layered with a gray plush rug strewn with red roses, skulls, and lit candles. Most eye-catching were the vintage candelabra and the metal chains and gears on the back wall. To set the mood, the gaffer used contrasting cool and warm lighting—eerie blue cool light on the left, and warm reddish glow cast by candlelight and chandeliers on the right. This intense chromatic contrast lent extraordinary dramatic tension to the frame.
The black umbrella held in my hand featured red patterned motifs on its interior; its ribs were quite heavy, so keeping an effortless posture during shooting actually kept my arm under constant strain. On my feet, I wore white slouch socks and Stockings with black chunky-heeled ankle boots. Standing on the rug in this ensemble, the weight of the skirt and coat made balancing tricky, so huge thanks to the photographer for constantly guiding my movements and eye lines.
To keep my performance sharp, I barely dared to sit down during breaks for fear of creasing the coat's tailored lines. With so many accessories on this costume, every pose change required my assistant's help to tidy the chains and skirt behind me. While the process was exhausting, seeing that crisp, three-dimensional silhouette emerge amidst intersecting light and shadow in the final images made every bit of effort completely worthwhile. Every Anime cosplay is truly a test of attention to detail—from styling the wig to building the set, striving to match the vision in my mind as closely as possible. The set was filled with richly textured elements, where the harmony of red roses and candles filled the entire space with a vintage, enigmatic charm, helping me immerse into character effortlessly before the camera.
