Seeing the final photos for the first time, there was indeed an illusion of time flowing backward. Regarding this set of Ruan Mei cosplay works, from the costume details to the fine-tuning of the makeup, every effort was made to get close to the character's cool yet gentle and elegant temperament.

When preparing the costume in the early stage, I specially looked for this peacock blue fabric with a glossy sheen, paired with metallic accessories and pearl necklaces, trying to add some custom texture beyond recreating the setting. For the hairstyle, a fluffy updo was done, incorporating white hair ornaments and golden branches and leaves to add layers. For the makeup, the focus was on the eye makeup and the choice of contact lens color; the light blue colored contact lenses made the gaze look softer and full of narrative.

The prop arrangement at the shooting site was also very important. We brought in quite a few lotuses and lotus leaves as foregrounds and backgrounds, combined with calligraphy scrolls and wooden lattices to create a classical summer lotus pond atmosphere. Especially in picture three, using the reflective material of the floor created a water reflection effect; this shooting concept immediately enriched the layers of the frame, and the blue-green tones of the musical instrument and fan formed a beautiful echo in the picture.

In terms of shooting postures, I tried different senses of relaxation, from sitting upright holding a round fan, to casually extending my legs on a wooden chair, and then to cradling the musical instrument, all hoping to showcase the character's ease at different moments. Although the surrounding scenery looked packed, the actual shoot heavily tested the positioning and angles. The light filtered through the lattices, forming great natural light and shadow. The entire set of photos didn't require excessive post-processing filters; the original light and shadow texture was already moving enough.

Speaking of details, I specially tried a barefoot look this time. Paired with the water reflection and floor glint, it indeed added a touch of ethereal quality to the overall picture. Propping up the round fan or plucking the strings, those tiny body movements became a very natural part of the frame. There were actually many visions for the overall output during early planning, and final landing into these few pictures can be seen as a tangible expression of my understanding of the character Ruan Mei in my heart. I really enjoyed this roleplay process and hope everyone can feel the tranquil atmosphere this ancient style photography shoot wanted to convey.
