[Honkai: Star Rail] Ruan Mei cosplay, direct output of behind the scenes capturing the Xianzhou cool and detached vibe

Just wrapped up work, taking advantage of not having taken off my makeup and tidied up yet, I quickly took out my phone to snap this quick update for you guys to see. I'm currently lying on the ground resting; having just finished posing for that upside-down posture, my butt and waist are incredibly sore, and I feel like my whole body is about to fall apart.

You might think this high-angle perspective looks very ethereal and beautiful, but in reality, posing for it heavily tests core strength. The legs must be straight, the body must be relaxed, and you also have to pay attention to the position of the surrounding props. The plastic film laid on the ground simulates the reflective effect of the water surface and is slippery to step on. To ensure the photo negatives come out without mistakes in this cosplay photography, I was exerting force even with my toes, terrified of kicking over the props.

Let's talk about this costume. The texture of the blue and gold fabric is quite nice. The hollow-out design on the chest and shoulders, combined with the golden edging, is visually very layered. The black strap on the right leg has always been a detail I really like; paired with the leather gloves, it neutralizes the overly delicate ethereal vibe, adding a bit of sharpness and capability.

The set design this time was truly meticulous. The prop team brought in a Chinese-style wooden desk, placed a guqin-shaped instrument on it, and there was also a white round fan next to it. Combined with the pink lotus flowers, buds, and giant emerald green lotus leaves scattered on the ground, the atmosphere was instantly maxed out. Although these lotus flowers are artificial, under the on-site lighting and this high-angle perspective, it really creates the illusion of being placed above a lotus pond.

Didn't I just show you guys the full-body picture? Actually, there's another close-up that I think is also particularly interesting—the one of my headwear. The details of that white flower hair accessory are done extremely well; pearl stamens paired with translucent petals, with fine golden metallic threads outlining the edges. At that moment, a beam of light happened to strike down from above, passing through the white tulle curtain next to me, forming a beautiful halo and lens flare. Instantly, it had that ethereal feel of an ancient-style Xianxia world. At that moment, I felt all the hassle of this afternoon was worth it.

I must say, finding the right angle is truly a technical job. To shoot this unique composition, the photographer had to climb onto a very high ladder or scaffold to shoot downwards, and continuously communicate with me about the position. I was down below with my eyes closed, feeling the atmosphere, but my mind was actually full of "stay steady, don't move, keep legs straight, put hands in place."

Shooting ancient-style Xianxia themed cosplay really tests one's patience. The makeup and hair took almost two hours; the wig was carefully sectioned and combed, and this headwear had to be fixed steadily so it wouldn't slip off, using an entire row of clips. Putting on shoes, tying straps, adjusting sleeves—every step requires responsibility for the details.

Actually, the difficulty of this look isn't just the movements, but also that the clothes get messy easily. Because my movements while lying on the ground were quite large, the skirt hem and waist accessories easily shifted out of place, so after every shot, the photographer had to call a stop to let me tidy up. The assistant was also standing by, ready to help me adjust the position of the lotus leaves and the water surface at any time. It's truly the result of teamwork. Behind this seemingly effortless ethereal vibe is often a lot of hard work behind the scenes.

The moment the shooting ended, I just collapsed onto the ground. The floor was rock hard, but I couldn't care less. Even though my body was extremely exhausted and my clothes were a bit sweaty from this muggy weather, looking at this behind the scenes negative just captured on my phone, a sense of accomplishment welled up spontaneously.

This shoot attempted compositions and lighting that I hadn't tried before, and the final result should be even more stunning than the behind the scenes photos. The white flower on my head, the props in my hands, the water reflection beneath my feet, and this blue and gold toned costume—they really go well together. Now it's handed over to the post-processing editor, looking forward to the final photos perfectly presenting that cool and detached temperament of the Xianzhou scholar.
