[Astra Yao & Evelyn cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero's lazy morning mini-theater

Smoothing out the strands on the golden wig, adjusting the collar of the white shirt, fastening the black leather belt with a golden buckle tightly around the waist, and putting on the snug, glossy leather pants—once fully geared up, I quickly found the character's state.

This shoot features the partner duo of Astra Yao and Evelyn from Zenless Zone Zero. The Evelyn look portrayed by my partner features deep dark-blue straight long hair paired with a pure white hairband, and that black-and-white dress with abundant ruffles, cut-out details, and pearl straps added a touch of elegance and refinement to the overall aura. This photo set mainly aimed to capture that relaxed and familiar everyday interactive feeling between the two characters, so instead of deliberately pursuing high-difficulty poses, the focus was placed on capturing their natural states in this Duo cosplay.

Regarding costumes, the look on the left that I wore consists of black leather skinny pants and a black jacket half-draped over the shoulders, with dark gold texture accents at the cuffs and hem. The black leather fingerless gloves on the hands feature lace-up details, paired with high-heeled leather boots adorned with metal patchwork decorations, giving an overall crisp and capable impression. The look on the right presents a completely different, gorgeous style: an off-shoulder black-and-white patchwork design combined with pearl strings and metal rings on the chest creates rich layering, while bare legs paired with chunky-heeled platform shoes and a pearl leg ring beautifully accentuate the leg silhouette. The differences in fabrics and cuts between the two outfits formed a wonderful visual contrast when framed together.

The shooting environment was also designed in stages. In the first phase, using a pure white backdrop and soft front lighting, we shot several full-body photos of the two of us sitting on a cylindrical platform, primarily aimed at showcasing the complete silhouette of the outfits and the leg lines, as the solid background made the figures stand out more. The second scene was a vintage set with practical props, where faux red-brick wallpaper and leather sofas created a lazy indoor ambiance. Beside us were an antique typewriter, glass liquor bottles on a wooden shelf, a red retro rotary dial phone, and a metal license plate reading B24460, along with a large metal-framed prop with a light-up panel, all giving the scenes a stronger sense of storytelling.

In the pictures, there is a scene where both of us sit on the sofa, with one leaning forward to hand over a glass. Shooting such intimate interactions is actually more challenging than merely striking poses, because we had to ensure body coordination while synchronizing our breathing and gaze frequencies. After adjusting shoulder heights and arm extension angles several times, we finally captured that feeling of natural interaction before the camera. This slice-of-life shooting approach relies on subtle body language and eye contact between characters to express emotions, whether touching fingertips or gazing at each other, striving to fit the interactive atmosphere of the original work.

In the practical studio set, the light hitting the leather fabric created noticeable reflections, enhancing the visual texture. During shooting, this leather outfit and complex boots actually had limited breathability, and with props being relatively large and heavy, we both broke quite a sweat throughout the shoot. But seeing those warm, vivid scenes captured in the viewfinder made all the effort spent preparing costumes, accessories, and props feel worthwhile. The coordination with my partner was exceptionally tacit this time; we barely needed spoken communication to quickly understand each other's movement intentions.

From initial styling to post-production lighting, this entire set of photos aimed to showcase the unique relaxation and comfort belonging to this partner duo on the foundation of character accuracy, rather than a stiff, formal staged shoot. This slice-of-life state carrying a touch of daily laziness actually aligns better with the characters' inherent temperament. I hope this presentation filled with living warmth allows everyone to see a different side of these characters.
