This shoot of Bronya in her Silverwing: N-EX outfit from Honkai Impact 3rd is finally wrapped, and looking at the raw photos truly gave me an eye-opening moment! I had been hesitating on which studio to use, but ultimately chose the cleanest, pure white studio photography setup. The configuration of a shadowless wall and softboxes faithfully reproduced the white, blue, and black textures of the costume, especially the X-patterns on the deep blue skirt hem, which displayed rich layers under uniform lighting.
I brought along a Homu plushie this time—after all, Bronya loves Homu so much! Though its expression is always delightfully derpy, holding it added a touch of gap-moe sweetness to the sci-fi, cool, and rigid styling. During shooting, I asked the photographer to capture a few different states: sitting on a low platform, kneeling, and framing poses leaning on a high stool—each set carried a unique flavor.
I have to give special praise to the thigh rings and over-the-knee socks for this stockings cosplay setup. White stockings paired with anti-slip bands really test leg shape and fit. Luckily, after adjusting for a long time, the indents and alignments were finally lined up neatly. Those color-blocked thick-soled shoes look very athletic, but their actual wearability is unexpectedly great—stepping onto the stool felt completely natural. The white mechanical parts on the shoulders and the blue-and-black arm guards were repeatedly taped and adjusted so they wouldn't shift even during larger movements; the prop master was truly thoughtful.
Regarding the white-and-blue device in hand, it is actually lighter than it looks. Holding it for long periods didn't make my arms sore, but swinging it still took some finesse, especially when catching the moment the ribbons fluttered—the photographer's dynamic capture was super precise. Everyone in the studio repeatedly tested the lighting setup and reflector angles, finally settling on a soft, high-key bright style that avoided overexposing the white garments while preserving dark details on the blue-and-black parts of the skirt.
The most satisfying point of the entire photo set is that there wasn't much post-processing body shaping—relying on solid garment tailoring and a clean background to support the visual impact. The Silverwing: N-EX design itself carries a strong techwear style; off-the-shoulder cuts and hollow strap designs test one's balance while highlighting waist, shoulder, and neck lines nicely. The shooting experience was extremely smooth without forcing high-difficulty poses; sitting naturally or propping up one leg easily conveyed Bronya's calm, confident demeanor.
If there is an opportunity in the future, I'd like to try shooting with atmospheric lighting, like cool blue-and-white rim light outlines, which might give a stronger sci-fi narrative feel. However, this pure white background remains the most timeless and convenient for subsequent layout design. Thanks to my photographer's patient direction, and to myself for bearing this set of gear and props through several hours. All in all, this was a thoroughly enjoyable cosplay photoshoot—Bronya's Silverwing: N-EX is truly worth recording in this way.
