Shooting conditions at an Anime convention are vastly different from private photo studios, demanding rapid adaptation to the environment and finding optimal lighting positions. This photo set was shot in a public area of the convention venue, where high overhead lights and deep gray concrete flooring naturally formed a cool-toned baseline for the scene.
The top is a black glossy leather jacket with pronounced texture, contrasted with an inner white stand-up collar shirt creating classic black-and-white color-blocking. Strap details on the shoulders and metallic zippers serve as accents, adding a touch of mechanical and techwear flair. To capture the character's calm, imposing nature, the garment tailoring leans toward a sleek, fitted silhouette rather than being overly baggy. The lower body features a Black tights outfit with matte pantyhose, creating a textural contrast against the glossy black Mary Jane high heels on my feet, with the heels further elongating the leg proportions visually.
The black crow perched in my left palm is the most dramatic visual symbol of this styling. Considering the need to hold it statically on-site for extended periods, the prop was constructed from lightweight materials and secured with ultra-thin transparent monofilament, ensuring no visible pressure points appear in the lens to simulate a natural perching posture. My right hand grips the edge of the ladder with fingertips catching the metallic groove, which, combined with a slightly forward-leaning seated posture, achieves a well-balanced visual tension throughout the frame.
To emphasize a commanding, authoritative presence, low-angle upward shooting was intentionally used. The stepladder served as an excellent auxiliary prop here, not only adding vertical depth to the frame but also making the character look visually more assertive. High-mounted spotlights on set provided rim lighting from above, while the photographer's strobe illuminated the facial features and reflective surfaces of the leather jacket. The background blur prevented surrounding staff and booth equipment from distracting from the subject, allowing the focal point to stand out sharply.
Preparing this Yixuan "Ink-Shadow" look required substantial effort beforehand, especially ensuring the snug fit of the wig and headpiece, which underwent multiple fittings to ensure they wouldn't shift during vigorous movements. The lighting and crowd flow on the day of the convention were relatively unpredictable, and successfully completing the Cosplay photography under these conditions was thanks to the quick synergy built with the photographer. Although leather isn't breathable and indoor convention temperatures were somewhat warm, entering the shooting zone allowed me to temporarily tune out those external conditions.
The final photos achieved a crisp, cool, and sharp texture that harmonizes seamlessly with the character's overall ambiance. The structured leather jacket, Black tights outfit, high heels, and crow prop attracted considerable attention from passersby at the Anime convention, which is part of the joy of cosplay. As new concepts arise, I will continue to optimize the equipment and styling details.
