Photos from Day 3 of Bilibili World (BW)—this time, I chose Sunohara Kokona as my styling for the day. There are many noteworthy design aspects to this costume; the overall black, white, and blue color palette is relatively grounded, while orange frog buttons and pendant charms directly elevate the layered aesthetic as accents.
The long, straight silver-white hair truly tests the quality of the wig in this white hair cosplay. The circular halo overhead and cat ears are the essence; to accentuate that floating illusion, the photographer opted for a high-angle overhead perspective from an upper diagonal. This top-down high-angle framing visually presents the 3D depth of the floating halo perfectly, though it also heavily tests the model's posing control. To maintain an airy lightness with outstretched arms while keeping my facial expressions vivid, I adjusted my center of gravity repeatedly during the shoot to make the overall posture appear more relaxed.
The costume details are very fun: a Chinese frog-button collar paired with modern jacket tailoring, combined with blue-purple patterns on the miniskirt, offers rich visual elements. Because the character is set as only 11 years old in Blue Archive, I consciously abandoned mature, posed "commercial" expressions in favor of clear, innocent eyes and a subtle, childlike upturned smile. The orange-amber contact lenses in the eyes were a stroke of genius, complementing the silver-white hair color beautifully.
To recreate the character's aura as faithfully as possible, I paid special attention to balancing the structured drape of the outerwear with the breezy flow of the skirt hem. The white platform sneakers on my feet paired with black ankle socks infused plenty of everyday vitality into the ensemble, beyond just fusing traditional Chinese and anime aesthetics. Walking around the convention floor, these chunky soles didn't tire my feet, allowing me to stay energetic on the move all day long.
Compared to the first two days, the venue on BW Day 3 felt somewhat more spacious with slightly lighter foot traffic, giving us ample opportunity to move between spots. Many fellow fans passing by recognized the look immediately and warmly greeted me using the character's nickname; the anime convention cosplay atmosphere was truly heartwarming.
However, ultra-long silver-white wigs easily tangle in crowded spaces, and along with the overhead bracket and cat ears, they required conscious protection while roaming the hall. After wrapping up each photo spot, I would instinctively check whether the props had shifted out of place. The makeup, styling, and wig maintenance for this outfit took considerable time, but thankfully the final photos met all expectations.
The photographer's high-angle shot was a great test of expressiveness. While the pose seemingly involved just spreading my arms open, controlling the arm angle, head tilt, and facial orientation in front of the lens required close coordination. We tried various positions before landing on the optimal setup, making the final BW convention photos look unforced, like a candidly recorded moment.
The costume utilized structured fabrics so it wouldn't appear limp under the harsh convention hall lighting. The fabric's subtle luster under softbox fill lighting brought out great texture. The detailed patterns beneath the skirt hem were also rich, maintaining a complete presentation of the outfit even from high-angle perspectives.
After wrapping up this shoot, the very first thing I did upon returning to the rest area was taking off the wig to comb it smooth. Of course, getting in and out of this costume also required care to avoid damaging the delicate frog buttons at the collar. Overall, cosplaying Sunohara Kokona at BW was a fantastic experience; with well-matched lighting and color grading, character restoration and personal expressiveness achieved a great balance.
The photos turned out very fresh and crisp, and the overall experience was thoroughly enjoyable, giving me even more confidence to cosplay this character at future events. I look forward to bringing this pure, radiant look to our next anime convention encounter.
