In shooting this Jeanne d'Arc (Alter) cosplay from Fate/Grand Order, the primary focus was highlighting the reflective texture of black latex material in a dark environment. Because black outfits can easily lose depth and layering in photos, I specifically requested top-side lighting from the photographer to generate crisp edge highlights across the glossy gloves and headpiece. The red sword hilt in hand served as a striking visual accent.

Customizing this costume took considerable time. The corset was crafted in deep purple with black trim, creating a subtle color gradation against the pure black gloves. Putting on latex gloves requires utmost care, especially applying talcum powder beforehand to avoid snagging. Once on, the arms are tightly wrapped, restricting bending angles, so dialing in natural pose amplitudes required constant fine-tuning.

A solid gray studio backdrop paired with light floor fog was chosen to make the subject pop. Photographer Bai (@阿白不受影响) was an exceptionally attentive collaborator, continuously repositioning lights to capture highlights on the fabric while avoiding irregular reflections or flaws. For the frontal close-up, we tested various angles before settling on the direct-gaze shot for the cover due to its intense communicative power.

While the closed-eye shot leaves more room for imagination, the open golden-eyed gaze felt far more impactful for the cover. I'm quite pleased with this set. For eye makeup, heavy vibrant eyeshadow was dialed back in favor of dark matte shadows to contour the eye sockets, giving the gaze greater depth. The white wig was trimmed extensively across multiple sessions, layering staggered hair wefts of varying lengths to keep the strands from appearing stiff.

It was actually quite hot on shoot day; because latex is completely non-breathable, sweating was intense, demanding constant touch-ups—especially around the forehead and neck prone to oily shine. The interior of the headpiece was stifling, yet keeping it perfectly anchored was essential to avoid breaking the silhouette lines. The black braided cord accent across the chest and the chain along the collarbone added rich detailing. Wearing this gear required balancing physical poise, natural movement, and a cold, aloof expression, finding the groove after several shots.

Regarding lighting control, we experimented with crisp, hard-edged lighting. The metallic chains sparkled under the lights, while the rim highlights on the headpiece and gloves sculpted sharp contours. Blended with the deep purple bodice and red sword hilt, the overall palette balanced steely chill with subtle warmth, preventing the frame from feeling overly suffocating. This post serves to document my understanding and visual execution of this character's styling in this Latex cosplay and Silver hair cosplay endeavor.
