[Okita Souji cosplay] Bringing My New Toy Kiyomitsu to a Date Under Cherry Blossoms

Spring is bright and beautiful, so I brought my new toy, Kiyomitsu, for a Spring photoshoot with early cherry blossoms. Although the sakura was truly breathtaking, the journey was an absolute ordeal—a massive traffic jam during the long weekend stretched the drive to over seven hours. Swaying back and forth in the car nearly broke me to pieces, and by the time we arrived, my mental state was a bold, capitalized "NOT DOING WELL."

Fortunately, the moment I saw the blooming flowers, my mood was saved. This time, I intended to capture a relaxed and natural state infused with combat readiness. In truth, what I wish most for Okita-san is for her to always maintain a genuinely happy smile like in photo 4—that seemingly casual yet lively expression is her most moving side in my heart. We deliberately adjusted the shooting rhythm this time, avoiding rigid adherence to overly serious compositions, and instead found many ideal moments through candid snapshots.

This outfit actually holds abundant details—the white crossed-collar top paired with a cyan haori jacket featuring subtle floral patterns, combined with a black scarf and thick white hemp rope knot, creates very rich layers. For the wig, I specifically trimmed the bangs while retaining the white-haired character's iconic looped hair ribbons, keeping the hairstyle light and dynamic. Combined with the prop sword as my "new toy," the red scabbard served as a wonderful visual accent in the frame, adding plenty of dashing charm whether resting over my shoulder or naturally held in hand.

The outdoor setting atmosphere was fantastic—blooming pink cherry blossom trees paired with vast emerald grass slopes, illuminated by soft and transparent light, looked just like a bright Japanese-style painting. The photographer's capture of light and shadow was incredibly precise; whether it was light filtering through flower branches during the day or facial highlights from direct flash at night, each presented distinct textures. I also loved the indoor set photos, where the background featured classic Japanese wooden shoji screen doors, whose warm-toned lighting created a cozy, relaxed home vibe that fit the character's temperament seamlessly.

The shooting process was cheerful throughout; though holding the prop sword all day made my wrist sore, being able to materialize my love for the character as a cosplayer is inherently a truly joyful experience. Special thanks go to photographer Mirrow for patient guidance and candid snapshots, as well as assistants Adong and Xiaoshan for helping with lighting, costume adjustments, and props on the side. A great photoshoot truly relies on team synergy; thinking back to everyone bustling under the cherry blossom trees still fills my heart with warmth.

After returning, I worked overnight editing and retouching, finally organizing all accumulated materials today. Although typesetting these long banner photos was straining on the eyes, seeing the final renders completely dispelled all gloom brought by traffic jams. For me, cosplay is not merely recreating a character's appearance, but a journey of finding emotional resonance with the character across different settings. I hope to authentically record this lightness and beauty among the early cherry blossoms through this photo set.
