This cyan-and-black qipao styling captured in the shoot blends Year of the Snake motifs with an Elf ears design. For the wig, I selected a highly saturated lake blue, coiling two looped buns on top accented with golden glitter, cyan ribbons, and red tassels. To highlight the serpentine concept, the facial makeup incorporated green cosmetic contacts alongside crimson painted accents beneath the eyes and across the bridge of the nose; most distinctive of all was donning long, pointed elf ear prosthetics to inject a touch of fantasy.
The garment features a paneled union of cyan and black: the stand collar and frog closures preserve classic qipao heritage, yet the shoulders showcase cutout detailing complemented by studded black leather arm cuffs, steering the overall silhouette toward a modernized aesthetic. The gown is adorned with extensive golden scale-like prints and diamond lattice patterns, finished with a high side slit for fluid movement. The sleeves flare into bell cuffs tied off with red cord bows, while metallic waist chains and red tassels enhance kinetic sway while walking. For footwear, chunky black block-heeled platform shoes were laced with red and cyan ribbons. The handheld props mainly included a black folding fan and a green bamboo-rib umbrella, enriching the compositions across diverse poses.
The setting was staged in a hall lined with black-and-white geometric carpeting, where overhead venue lights and softly blurred background fairy lights cultivated an authentic convention ambiance. During shooting, flash strobes were used to drag the shutter and deepen the backdrop, allowing the cyan and black fabrics to showcase their subtle reflective sheen under key illumination. For the seated frames, I intentionally swept the skirt aside to reveal the leg lines framed by the high slit, while the standing pose lifting a leg with the fan aimed to display full-body proportions and footwear details. Overall, while preserving the elegance of the qipao, this look incorporated edgy, rebellious accents via the Elf ears and studded leather cuffs, harmonizing with the mythical agility of the Year of the Snake. I hope this VOCALOID series lets everyone feel the fresh possibilities of fusing Chinese-style cosplay with anime styling, and huge thanks to the photographer for catching these frames.
