[Hatsune Miku Cosplay] Magnet Dark Gothic Style Black Dress and Glowing Butterfly Headphones Photoshoot Record

This Hatsune Miku cosplay photoshoot set featuring her Magnet black dress underwent detailed preparation from costumes to props. First, regarding the look, I chose a Hatsune Miku styling infused with dark gothic style elements. The black strapless lace dress with white trim, paired with black lace fingerless gloves and lace-edged black thigh-high stockings, abandons vibrant colors visually, opting instead for a striking visual contrast between pure black and cool-toned teal hair. This black dress look actually tests one's temperament in cosplay and demands a very clean makeup look; otherwise, it can easily appear dull. Before the shoot, I communicated at length with my makeup artist, "Jiangdong Fangxin Zonghuofan," establishing that this set would go for a coolly glamorous, mature, and slightly mysterious style. Therefore, in choosing eyeshadow and lip color, bright reds and purples were avoided as much as possible, keeping a cool yet alluring base tone.

Speaking of props, the most central piece is undoubtedly the glowing butterfly headphones. It is both a stroke of genius for the styling and a major challenge during shooting. The wings of these headphones are made of translucent material with internal LED purplish-red lights that create a wonderful atmosphere when illuminated in dim lighting, pairing exceptionally well with the red-and-black set design and scattered roses in the background. However, the issue was that wearing such bulky headphones meant that if my head tilted even slightly too far, they would easily slip off. We had to restart several times during shooting. The photographer Aki patiently adjusted the lighting angles to match the headphone's glowing effect, seeking a balance between highlights and shadows—aiming to make the glowing effect of the butterfly wings distinct while keeping facial lighting dimensional and soft.

The shooting environment was a constructed indoor studio, with an overall decor leaning towards gothic and vintage styles. Deep red velvet sofas, dark carved iron birdcages, and red and blue artificial flowers scattered on the floor combined to fit the thematic atmosphere exceptionally well. Especially in the photo where I lie back amidst the bed of flowers, as the lights fall, red roses and blue flower stems intertwine with the black dress, alongside the iconic red number 01 on my right arm, creating maximum visual impact. The ambient lighting on site was quite dim, relying heavily on various atmospheric lights arranged by the photographer and subsequent color grading to elevate the texture. Post-processing was finely retouched by Bkaaaaa.., elevating the dreamy, dark-night atmosphere while preserving natural skin textures. When the final images came out, they truly recreated that envisioned gorgeous yet aloof look.

As a cosplayer who favors this dramatic and contrasting feeling, I always invest extra effort whenever encountering dark or dark gothic style looks. Although the black dress looks great, one needs to pay special attention to relaxing body language during shooting, especially when wearing a short skirt, balancing elegant posture while keeping the skirt folds neat. In this photo set, whether it's the extension of leg lines when sitting or the hand placements in standing or half-body shots, adjustments were made repeatedly. Though exhausting after the shoot, seeing this story-filled anime-style photography work makes all the preparation and hard work feel well worth it. I hope this exploration of VOCALOID character possibilities conveys a unique feeling to everyone through these photos.
