[Ruan Mei cosplay] Jiangnan Classical Aesthetics in Honkai: Star Rail

Today I'm sharing an official photoshoot of my Ruan Mei cosplay. When I first took on this character, I immersed myself deeply in her lore and backstory. That aloof, hyper-focused demeanor intertwined with rich Oriental antiquity was the core essence I sought to capture before the lens. Preparing the wardrobe, makeup, and props was an exceptionally fulfilling creative journey.

For makeup, I opted for a pristine, translucent foundation to honor her character design, dedicating prime attention to the eye makeup. Elongating the outer eye contours with a subtle upward flick and pairing them with blue-green contact lenses, I aimed to recreate her clear, serene, yet faintly enigmatic gaze. Regarding the hair, I selected a black-to-blue gradient wig, personally trimming the see-through blunt bangs and wispy side locks. The golden botanical hairpin was adjusted millimeter by millimeter against reference art to achieve the most flattering wearing angle.

In terms of wardrobe, this modernized cheongsam design is exquisitely crafted. The primary peacock-blue palette spliced with dark brown panels, accented by gold metallic piping along the seams, glistens under studio spotlights for maximum visual texture. Because the design features generous skin reveals—such as cutout waist details and high side slits—I spent time refining my posture and body lines beforehand. The midnight-blue opera gloves served as the crowning touch, instantly exuding an aura of scholarly elegance and poised expertise.

A great deal of thought went into constructing the set. To evoke a scholarly, classical aesthetic, we styled wooden lattice windows, flowing sheer drapery, miniature potted pine bonsais, and a traditional scholar's writing desk. The undeniable highlight among the props was the blue-and-gold pipa lute. The instrument carries considerable real weight; to maintain an effortlessly graceful posture in still frames, my hands and core were constantly engaged in subtle muscular control. Sculpted under photographer Melo's warm lighting, veiled behind sheer gauze and decorative folding screens, a misty, poetic ambiance came to life instantly.

For posing, whether conveying the gentle serenity of holding the round fan or the scholarly absorption of cradling the pipa, I strove to keep my body language open and fluid. For the full-body captures, I deliberately showcased the high slit of the skirt. Paired with sheer nude Stockings, it smoothed and flattered my leg contours while bestowing a delicate, silky texture to the skin, infusing the warm illumination with an alluring, feminine grace. In standing poses, keeping my back upright, collarbones prominent, and slightly crossing my legs visually elongated my proportions. I truly hope this collection combining classical heritage with subtle allure lets everyone experience Ruan Mei's singular charm.
