[Firefly cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Greenhouse Photography Notes

Preparation for this Firefly cosplay shoot from Honkai: Star Rail took longer than anticipated. The most intricate parts of the costume were the scarf at the neckline and the gradient layers of the skirt; to achieve the original silhouette and natural drape, an extra petticoat was added underneath. The white coat featured gold trim, and the weight of the accessories required me to stay mindful of maintaining balance while walking. The wig was custom-dyed with a white-to-blue gradient, with the blue ends blending naturally. Special colored contacts were used, requiring careful wear. Makeup focused on translucence and fine eye details, applying highlighter to the inner corners of the eyes, bridge of the nose, and cheekbones to give the face dimensional depth while honoring the 2D aesthetic.

The venue was styled as a greenhouse with very soft ambient light, leaving plenty of room to fine-tune lighting and reflectors. When shooting leg close-ups and full-body frames, special attention was paid to pointing the toes and the visual transition from the legs to the high heels, ensuring natural, elongated leg lines. Because I was wearing Stockings, how the light fell across the fabric texture was crucial, leading to multiple angle adjustments. I also experimented with different seated tilt angles to adjust the composition between my body and the lens, giving the frame greater visual tension.

Several little episodes occurred during the shoot—such as the wig catching on flower branches or flower petals clinging to the skirt hem—requiring prompt touch-ups. To achieve the best eye expressions, I constantly regulated my breathing and gaze throughout, mindfully relaxing tense shoulder muscles to align with the photographer's angles. The lighting assistant helped position the reflector to keep facial contours crisp. Because the greenhouse was somewhat humid, my makeup melted twice, and keeping the look clean required frequent powder touch-ups. Stepping onto wooden floors in white high heels demanded extra caution; walking around was tiring on the feet, but maintaining a poised, natural stance before the camera was essential.

No exaggerated post-processing effects were applied to the final photos. We prioritized faithful color rendition and detail preservation, making the images look genuine while capturing the character's core essence. Photo selection took considerable deliberation, balancing the display of leg lines, overall composition, and gaze focus, ultimately settling on this clean frame free of visual clutter. Pre-shoot communication and on-set coordination went very smoothly, and props were well prepared. Although the process was demanding, the results exceeded expectations. I hope sharing this cosplay set brings visual delight to everyone, serving as a heartfelt showcase of the character's costume details.
