The shooting schedule at this Shanghai PI Photo Exhibition was extraordinarily tight. In prior discussions with photographer dvacos, we locked in an esports theme incorporating visual motifs from Overwatch, ultimately settling on this dynamic and vibrant E-sports girl look.
In preparation for this shoot, I arranged a pink-and-blue colorblock ensemble. The oversized pink jacket featured structured, crisp tailoring with functional zipper and drawstring details, worn over a form-fitting blue bodysuit stamped with a petite bunny emblem across the chest. Styling the lower half with over-the-knee White stockings created a striking, high-impact visual clash between high-saturation pink, blue, and white tones. To align closer with an authentic E-sports girl persona, I hand-painted three bold red whisker stripes across each cheek. Accessorizing with black-and-pink over-ear gaming headphones and a gray-and-pink toy blaster rounded out every layer of visual detail. The fabric textures translated crisply on camera, forging an exquisite tactile contrast between the jacket's loose folds and the bodysuit's contour-hugging silhouette.
The set was staged inside an esports gaming zone, framed by dark industrial walls, glowing neon signs, and monitors flashing colorful in-game footage. Settling into the black gaming chair made sinking into a gamer's flow state effortless. I explored diverse seating stances and hand gestures—from resting my chin over clenched fists to flashing playful cat-paw gestures accompanied by a wink. These poses added cheeky charm while accentuating garment accents, particularly the elongated lines of the legs wrapped in White stockings. An E-sports girl need not remain stoic and aloof; infusing playful confidence and interactive warmth brings the character to life.
dvacos exhibited consummate mastery over lighting, coaching me to angle my seated posture to harness ambient neon tubes as rim lights that lifted my silhouette cleanly off the dark background. Bathed in interlocking warm and cool tones, the tactile weaves of the pink jacket and blue inner suit popped with rich dimensional fidelity. While holding poses, I continually aligned the headphone band, toy blaster, and hand gestures to keep every micro-detail dialed in. Constant communication on set allowed us to calibrate prop angles and facial orientation, ensuring each shot captured that signature gamer confidence laced with playful cheekiness.
Being deeply passionate about gaming aesthetics myself, the competitive thrill of Overwatch has always resonated with me. While posing, I visualized having just secured a clutch match victory or sharing banter with squadmates. This mental immersion lent organic authenticity to my gaze and expressions. Although studio shoots demand relentless pose calibrations and micro-lighting shifts, witnessing the finished harmony of color and chiaroscuro made the session deeply gratifying. From wardrobe coordination and face paint detailing to seamless environmental integration, this set solidified my command over the aesthetic. I look forward to exploring more esports-infused fashion concepts and pushing further possibilities in cosplay and Overwatch cosplay.
