Putting on this swimwear outfit and standing on the wooden deck indeed feels completely different from wearing a uniform usually. Today, doing this anime cosplay with my partner for these two characters from Blue Archive was a lot more joyful throughout the process than imagined. Since it's the height of summer, the outdoor sunshine was exceptionally dazzling, so we specially selected this pool side with straw-woven sun umbrellas as our main scene. Besides restoring the characters' classic modeling looks, we also wanted this swimwear to present a refreshing real-shot texture. For this type of design that leans toward daily life but carries sci-fi elements, the choice of fabric is extremely important; the black swimsuit has a relatively crisp matte texture, while the blue and white patchwork lines on the side heavily test the tailoring. To ensure no awkward wardrobe malfunctions occurred when entering the water, we checked every inner hidden snap button one by one.

In terms of props and headpieces, we spent a lot of effort this time to elevate the replication level. The iconic halos and animal ears on the characters' heads serve as the visual core. To ensure they didn't look cheap under the outdoor sunshine, we personally adjusted the glossiness of the halo's paint finish multiple times. The silver-haired and black-haired wigs took quite some time to comb into a fluffy styling that could withstand strong winds before entering the official shoot. Coordinated with the exposure of the swimwear look, the skin treatment around the neck and shoulders was also taken into the scope of the overall makeup/styling, which allows the characters to leak a sense of lightness from the frame. It can be said that every seemingly casual photo output consumes a massive amount of energy during early preparations to look into the details.

The light and shadow environment of the shooting venue was relatively complex. Although sunshine was abundant, intense overhead lighting easily creates unpleasant shadows below facial features. To compensate for this, my partner and I adjusted quite a few standing positions, obtaining softer exposure by shielding each other or searching for scattered light under the sun umbrellas. When taking full-body photos, the photographer specifically stepped back further, incorporating the wooden deck edge, the sparkling pool water, and the background green plants all into the lens, beautifully baking out the summer holiday atmosphere. While conducting close-up特写, we focused more on the facial demeanor interpretation, which tests both the grasp of character personalities and the restraint of one's own expression management.

During the shooting process, we actually encountered quite a few small situations. The outdoor temperature was highly stifling and hot; wearing tight one-piece swimsuits combined with wigs and headpieces, it didn't take long before we were covered in sweat. The bangs of my partner next to me got wet from sweat, and I also had slightly flushed cheeks due to not touching up my makeup in time. However, it was precisely these real "disheveled" moments that allowed us to tease each other and relax quite a bit, making the subsequent snapshots much more natural instead. We attempted some highly interactive postures on the wooden boards, such as turning sideways to make a photo-taking gesture or standing shoulder to shoulder. All movements did not intentionally chase exaggerated posing but were designed according to the characters' own tones, thereby maintaining a pressure-free, comfortable atmosphere.

The most attractive part of this creation itself lies in being able to objectify the character images in one's mind through visual means. Whether it's the coolness leaking from black hair and red eyes, or the casualness carried by silver hair and animal ears, we attempted to preserve these subtle differences in the photos. Because the selected scene this time has a very high fit with the original swimwear setting, we also tried our best to preserve the original water sheen and light/shadow texture during post-processing without adding excessive filters to alter the color palette. I just hope everyone who sees this photo can also feel the harmony brought by summer, the pool, and the person next to me.

Looking at these final out-of-the-oven photos now, I can still instantly recall our mood at that time. The way the two characters stand side by side by the pool looks exceptionally vivid against the backdrop of the clear water surface. This is a summer pool-limited record belonging to us and the characters. There wasn't an overly complex script for the entire process, just a true reflection of our wish to perfectly present this look. This is probably where the greatest joy of cosplay photography lies—using real limbs and scenes to construct a channel between the virtual and reality.
