[Hitagi Senjougahara Cosplay] Kindness Is Also a Hostile Act, Confrontation in the Art Studio

"Kindness is also a hostile act"—this was the core theme of this photoshoot. The copywriting proposed by Teacher Yansi happened to hit right on my understanding of this character. To express that thorny softness through the lens, one must work on the environment, styling, and poses all together.

This time, we chose an art studio photography setting filled with wooden easels and scattered paintbrushes. The staggered frame structures combined with natural light filtering through the window created a sense of daily life yet a slightly enclosed spatial depth. My outfit consisted of a light pink shirt with dark red fabric trimmed on the collar and cuffs, paired with a dark necktie; the overall color palette was soft and retro, fitting for an anime girl art student. For the hair, I chose a dark purple short wig with straight bangs, paired with blue-gray contact lenses to display purple hair and blue eyes, with the focus on capturing her gaze. In her iconic visual representations, Hitagi Senjougahara cosplay always carries a slightly sickly coolness, yet in certain moments she reveals an intensely aggressive edge; bringing out this contrast was the key focus of the makeup and expression.

For props, I prepared several everyday stationery items, such as a black stapler, a transparent ruler, and old paintbrushes. In her story, these items are her most handy weapons. During the shoot, I didn't deliberately pose with exaggerated movements; instead, I held these tools in my hand and conveyed emotions through the grip strength of my fingers. For example, when holding a paintbrush, I thought in my mind about being on guard against someone; when holding the ruler, it became a stance of confrontation.

The photographer's lighting was very restrained, avoiding harsh high-contrast lighting and instead maintaining a softer atmosphere. A few backlight shots even made the strands of hair and the contours of my shoulders look remarkably gentle. Because the light and shadow were soft and warm, the calm expression and piercing gaze on my face became even more persuasive, perfectly echoing the phrase "Kindness is also a hostile act."

Looking back at the photos after the shoot, I felt I found the spirit that belongs to her. She isn't the kind of character who wears her sharpness on her sleeve, but rather one who hides a great deal of stubbornness under the calm surface of everyday life. Wearing this pink and white outfit surrounded by wooden frames and paper scraps gave a strong sense of reality interwoven with fiction. Every cosplay feels like a deep dive into a character's mind; wandering around the art studio and playing with props for those few hours was truly immersive. After shooting, I helped the owner tidy up the wooden easels, echoing her character of not burdening others; restoring the space to a comfortable state before leaving was also a way of showing respect for this Monogatari Series experience.
