For this Furina cosplay under the "Letter from the Deep Sea" theme, what I cared about most during the entire preparation process was how to present the character's cool and mysterious temperament in front of the lens. As an anime girl with immense personal charm in Genshin Impact, Furina's outfit design itself is full of dramatic tension. Choosing to shoot the Letter from the Deep Sea theme this time was also to echo the backstory about "the somniloquy of a forgotten sea beast having a nightmare," aiming to convey a visual sense of interwoven dreams and reality through imagery.
Regarding outfit details, the tailoring of this cosplay costume is highly sophisticated. The corset structure of the upper body uses deep black and dark blue gradient fabrics, which nicely tightens the waistline, while a blue rhombic gemstone is inlaid right in the center, paired with golden texture details on the edges, making the overall texture incredibly exquisite. My absolute favorite part is that extremely exaggerated wide-brimmed hat; the edge of the brim is lined with black lace trim, the front center is adorned with her signature silver crescent moon pattern, and the golden geometric beaded pendants hanging from the side truly bring a mysterious magical aura when swaying gently under the studio lights.
The gloves paired this time are separate long velvet ones, extending from the base of the fingers all the way to the upper arms. Made of dark velvet fabric, they feel smooth to the touch, and the wrists and arms are similarly decorated with rhombic sapphires, keeping the details of the entire attire highly unified from head to toe. The long-handled staff held in one hand was also an important prop during the shoot; its color scheme features a blue-and-white ice-crystal texture, complete with golden patterns and a blue gemstone inlaid at the top. When composing the shots, I tried tilting the staff slightly, coordinating with the raised posture of my other hand to simulate a dynamic feeling of casting magic or listening to the whispers of a sea beast in the wind.
The skirt on the lower body is deeply layered; the inner layer is a white multi-layered tulle fluffy petticoat, while the outer layer is a high-saturation gradient skirt shifting from deep blue to light blue and then to pure white, featuring fine pleats and ruffled designs along the edges. When walking or lifting the skirt, the overlapping of the outer and inner skirts looks beautiful, presenting a visual layer resembling surging deep-sea waves. Paired with white tights and a thin black strap on the right thigh, the leg lines appear more slender, and the dark blue high heels on my feet, complete with blue bow decorations on the toes, make the overall look incredibly complete from head to toe.
A lot of thought was also put into the makeup and wig. The white-and-blue gradient short hair needed to be styled into a slightly voluminous and messy yet non-frizzy curve, fitting the character's noble yet ethereal aura. For the eye makeup, I chose bright light-blue contact lenses, paired with a translucent base and slightly red-toned lips, allowing my gaze and facial colors to contrast. Under clean lighting, this ethereal vibe becomes even more prominent. During the shoot, this set of photos adopted a minimalist, pure blue-and-white gradient background, utilizing light and shadow to emphasize the material texture of the clothing itself—such as the velvet reflection of the gloves under the lights and the layered gradient of the blue-and-white skirt. Without cluttered background elements, it allows people to better focus their attention on the character's expressions and clothing details in this cosplay photography.
In these photos, I experimented with a confident standing posture and a quiet sitting posture. When standing, lifting the skirt or holding the staff mainly showcases an unhurried elegance; when sitting, resting my cheeks on my stacked hands and tilting my head slightly toward the camera adds a sense of relaxation drifted outside of dreams, along with a touch of playfulness. Overall, the atmosphere presented by this work perfectly fits the theme of Letter from the Deep Sea, and I hope that while preserving the character settings, it can showcase the unique charm of the art of cosplay.
