During the season when Hydrangea flowers were in full bloom, I completed this outdoor photoshoot of Kochiya Sanae Cosplay from Touhou Project.

The location this time was chosen in a very dense Hydrangea bush, where pale green flower clusters interwove with emerald leaves. Natural light fell from overhead, forming beautiful lens flares and halos in the camera, creating an ambiance blending forest style and fairytale. This costume features abundant details; the white top with blue piping adopts an off-the-shoulder design with detached wide sleeves, which is not only breathable but also beautifully displays the character's fresh aura. That tiny frog hair clip atop my head is the soul of the entire look, appearing extraordinarily lively when paired with mint-green long hair. The waist sash section features intricate woven textures, accompanied by blue-green colored tassels for strong visual layering.

While preparing for this Outdoor photography shoot, the photographer and I put a lot of thought into matching this natural setting. The elegant, soft tone of the Hydrangea flowers formed a remarkably harmonious visual transition with my blue-and-white outfit. I experimented with half-body and centered compositions for camera angles, utilizing flowers and leaves as foreground and background as much as possible to increase visual depth. When a light breeze blew, the lace trim and tassels of the skirt hem fluttered gently, capturing many naturally dynamic moments. To restore the character's charm, I maintained a relatively serene and composed demeanor, making my expression appear approachable.

As for the costume's fabric, I chose a material that is soft yet retains structure; under outdoor sunlight, the subtle shimmer texture on the white fabric gave off a sparkling effect like shimmering water. Golden butterfly decorations on the cuffs added refinement, which, combined with frog buttons and blue ties, integrated traditional elements with modern Anime cosplay aesthetics. In fact, for theme-specific cosplay like this, the most difficult part is often not costume fabrication, but finding a real-world location highly compatible with the character. I discovered this spot during prior location scouting, and seeing the Hydrangea blossoms in full bloom made me immediately think of shooting Sanae's look here.

The light and shadow effects in final shots turned out wonderful; even without excessive post-processing, the natural green filter set a refreshing baseline for the entire photoset. I feel that compared to studio shoots, Outdoor photography allows characters to exist in real air, where sunlight and plants work together to bring 2D characters into 3D nature, which is deeply meaningful. Across these three photos, I attempted different hand gestures—some slightly lifting a hand near flowers, some gently touching leaves upon discovering Hydrangea blossoms, and others in static poses—aiming to convey the character's everyday state in a natural environment through diverse compositions and postures.

Working with the photographer was a true delight; he captured the 'translucent light and shadow' atmosphere I envisioned perfectly. Whether subtle reflections along outfit edges or translucency between hair strands, everything was handled impeccably. In a fast-paced life, taking an afternoon like this to immerse myself in this character and this flower bush was inherently deeply relaxing. Although this look carries specific lore settings in 2D, in 3D real scenery, this blue-and-white outfit felt exceptionally refreshing and harmonious. I hope this photoset allows everyone to feel the natural clarity and translucency belonging to Kochiya Sanae Cosplay in Touhou Project.
