[Scaramouche cosplay] Genshin Impact: A Soft and Cute Cat-Ear Style Easily Mastered Even by Male Characters - Image 1

For this Scaramouche cosplay fan-made shoot, the outfit styling incorporated cat-ear maid outfit elements to neutralize the character's inherent sharpness. Combined with the appearance of my frequent collaborator @yuki (Mili version), the overall atmosphere became very relaxed and lively.

First, let's talk about the hair and makeup details of this look. The wig was chosen in a dark blue matte fiber, with finely feathered layers rather than being overly thick. This ensured the cat ears with metal pendants on top seamlessly blended with the roots without making the head or face look overly large. For eye makeup, we moved away from the character's original heavy eyeliner and opted for red smudging beneath the eyes. Paired with light-colored contact lenses, this made the gaze look more lively with a touch of innocence, perfectly softening the male character's original aloof temperament.

The fabric and tailoring of the costume were also key focus areas. The inner top featured a grayish-blue ruffled shirt, with a multi-pointed star gemstone brooch added at the collar to brighten the look; metal chains hung down to the chest, refracting delicate shine under flat lighting to enhance overall glamor. The outer black short cape was detailed with subtle gold trim and cut in a slightly flared A-line silhouette, which shielded the shoulder profile while tapering toward the waist for an inverted triangle visual. Below, a pair of purple-black plaid shorts was paired with white thigh-high socks. The opacity and thickness of the socks were just right, flattering the leg line while harmonizing with the uniform aesthetic. To fit snugly, the waist cinch was designed with an elastic back and a metallic buckle on the front to raise the waistline, striking a balance between comfort and camera appeal.

In terms of positioning and body language, my partner and I opted for a front-and-back arrangement. Standing on the left back side, I gently placed my right hand on her head—a gesture that evokes pampering and protectiveness—which, paired with the wide pink-and-white striped background, created a relaxed vibe reminiscent of an amusement park or anime convention. My partner yuki squatted on the front right with her hands cupping her cheeks, perfectly showcasing her maid outfit details. Her white wide lapel collar and black bow tie complemented my purple-black plaid shorts, forming a clear, harmonious color balance.

Another challenging aspect of this Genshin Impact fan cosplay was blending sharpness with sweetness. During site checks, we spent a lot of time adjusting cuff elasticity and cape positions. Because maid outfits and wide lapels slightly restrict arm movement, we made numerous minor adjustments to ensure the collar maintained its original symmetry even during larger movements. Cutting the plaid shorts pattern also took considerable effort, requiring the tailor to carefully match the grid patterns at the seams so details would hold up under extreme close-ups.

Studio lighting was another key factor in achieving these results. Indoor photography often suffers from dull or flat lighting. This time, the photographer placed a black flag on the side, using its light-blocking effect to create a subtle rim light behind us that instantly added dimension to our outlines and garment layers. Previewing the raw shots on the camera screen, I saw that the cape trim, metal chains, and even fine stray wig hairs appeared rich with detail under this low-contrast soft light. Ultimately, cosplay is far more than just putting on a costume and standing still; interactions with your partner, eye contact, and camera angles all define the final photo texture.

Planning to execution took about a week, including last-minute wig restyling and searching for matching plaid shorts. Seeing the final results on the monitor made me feel this Scaramouche fan style concept was well worth shooting again. Today, I'm sharing this joint photo as a preview teaser; this theme actually includes many compositions from various angles, each expressing distinct emotional tones. Reimagining a male character's established image with contrasting maid outfit and cat-ear elements is a fun part of cosplay creation. I look forward to exploring more fan-made designs in 2D culture that capture character cores across diverse styles, bringing more creative fashion inspirations to life.
