Shooting this set of water park photos was entirely thanks to the perfectly overcast light of the day. To capture a satisfying effect in an outdoor pool, the right time, place, and people are all indispensable. The core of this styling lies in the handling of the long, straight pale blonde hair. Paired with light blue colored contact lenses, the overall makeup features a large area of pink-orange tipsy eyeshadow blended under the eyes, emphasizing a defenseless and relaxed feel. The blue circular halo prop on my head has an excellent texture; although it is quite light, it required careful securing when worn.
The swimsuit selected was a one-piece competitive style with navy blue, black, and white color-blocking, featuring clean lines and great coverage, making it perfect for this scenario where the lower body is submerged in shallow water. Before actually starting the shoot, we spent quite a bit of time adapting to the water temperature and testing the angle of body contact with the water surface, as the wave refractions on the water can warp the frame. The shooting poses were all very basic, such as a standing pose with a salute gesture, making a V-sign with both hands, sitting in the shallow water while playing with the hair ends, or leaning forward to let the fingertips lightly touch the water surface to capture subtle ripples of splashes. The photographer is highly skilled at capturing the compression of space brought by a wide aperture, blurring out the large gray stone pillars behind, the pink swim ring, and the distant amusement facilities, while restoring the character's skin tone and costume colors under the relatively soft ambient light.
When immersed in the water, what requires the most attention instead are sun protection and water streaks. Every time a posture is adjusted in the pool, it causes water droplets to form subtle textures on the skin and the surface of the swimsuit. If these details are not handled well, the texture in post-processing can look greasy. Fortunately, the adhesion of the water droplets in the final finished photos presents a natural and clear luster, which, paired with the character's relatively serene expression, keeps the overall atmosphere of the photos perfectly calm and cool. From planning to the end of the shoot, it lasted about two hours. Although the physical exertion was not too heavy, maintaining neat hair, makeup, and accessories in the pool required repeated adjustments. After the shoot, there were actually many candid, improvised moments; even though some rather conventional action poses were chosen, the natural feel of this set of photos is highly satisfying. I hope that through this styling and scene combination, we can convey this simple, comfortable, and clear visual experience by the summer pool to the audience during this pool photoshoot.
