I've finally finished retouching the official Phoebe Cosplay set from Wuthering Waves! This shoot actually took place back in spring, and I've procrastinated until now to slowly polish up the first few shots. Taking advantage of some free time today, let's talk about the behind-the-scenes story. When I first saw this golden wheat field, it felt like the absolute perfect backdrop for Phoebe's nature-steeped outfit—that idyllic atmosphere blending magic with wilderness manifested instantly in my mind.
The costume features a wealth of intricate details, especially those flowing blue-and-white ribbons. Not only did we need to showcase the pristine quality of the prints and embroidery, but we also had to capture their dynamic flow at just the right moments. To achieve that effortless, wind-swept flutter, we spent a great deal of time waiting on location for favorable gusts. The wig posed another hurdle: it is exceptionally long, and outdoor shoots in the wild mean strands constantly snag on weeds or tangle up, requiring patient combing after every burst of poses. Still, seeing the graceful arcs of hair dancing in the breeze and the layered ribbons against the clear blue sky made every bit of that effort worthwhile.
The prop staff was a custom commission brought along specifically for this shoot. While its actual weight wasn't overwhelming, holding it aloft continuously through various spellcasting stances and standing poses proved to be quite a workout for my arms and core stability. The sunlight on shoot day was radiant, casting luminous highlights across the white fabrics, Stockings, and golden hair. Since golden wheat fields are a fleeting springtime wonder that has likely turned lush green by now, looking back at these photos brings a delightful sense of spring nostalgia.
Running and leaping through the wheat field was my favorite part of the session. I had to sprint while actively managing facial expressions, all while keeping an eye on how the skirt and ribbons billowed in the air. After several takes, I was drenched in sweat and my shoes were coated in mud, but that feeling of unrestrained freedom in the open expanse was truly exhilarating. The photographer's candid captures were incredible—huge thanks to their patient guidance, even crouching down in dense brush just to nail the optimal perspectives.
During post-processing, I spent hours fine-tuning color tones to preserve the sun's gentle warmth while enhancing the ethereal, arcane mood of the attire. The fabric texture of the costume and that broad sunhat are elements I particularly adore. The makeup was kept fresh and translucent to suit outdoor daylight, complemented by high-pigment contact lenses with natural vibrancy that subtly gleamed under the sun. Though it took half a year to finally share this, I hope this set conveys the magical ambiance of that spring Wheat field photoshoot to everyone—and marks a small step in overcoming my procrastination!
Honestly, when executing wide-scale outdoor cosplay shoots, unpredictable weather and shifting light are always the biggest anxieties. The cloud cover that day was fairly thick, forcing us to wait repeatedly for those fleeting windows when the sun pierced through the clouds to quickly press the shutter. The contrast between the black striped lining and the white outer robe was stark under intense light, requiring meticulous balance across highlights and shadows during retouching. The tailored cut of this outfit is quite form-fitting, so I specifically warmed up beforehand to ensure movements appeared fluid rather than stiff. From initial test makeup and scouting to shooting and final color grading, every stage reflects our collective effort. While only a few photos are out for now, the behind-the-scenes workload was immense. Hopefully, I can beat my procrastination soon and polish up the rest of the collection!
